Why doesn't Pokemon sell codes?

They sold Booster Packs, Theme Decks, & Weekly Shop Items in the past for "Gems".

Gems were a microtransaction currency you could purchase with IRL money, but was only available to Canadians, and never brought to a world-wide audience. Eventually, they shut down this microtransaction currency in October-December of 2018.

If it helps, they charged about the same price for 1 digital booster pack in Gems, compared to an IRL booster pack, which was just insane. You basically could go get an IRL pack, with a code inside for the same price.

As always, TPCi/PTCGO continues to sit on another potential gold mine, but refuse to make any effort to capitalize on it in an effective manner.
