deck based on Magcargo’s Smooth Over ability

Recommended Posts

I recently spotted that there’s a Magmortar with an attack based on discarding cards and hoping they’re basic energies, which gave me the idea of putting a deck together combining this (as well as Entei, of course) with Smooth Over, as in Blazing Volcano. (I bought a second Blazing Volcano a while back (for Shuckle, IIRC) so I’ve doubled up on Magcargo, and it turns out I have a Magcargo GX too so I chucked that in to give myself options.) I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how it’s played so far, though it’s very early days. This is my first foray into Standard, and so far I’m only using cards I already have - what should I be thinking of next?

Run less healing and more consistency. For a Fire deck, 4 Welder is a necessity and running more ways to find it consistently, like Pokegear 3.0, is also a good idea. Up your counts of Entei and Magmortar as they are the main attackers to at least a 3-2 line of Magmortar and 3 Entei. Try to make sure you have 6 attackers, because you only give 1 Prize card per turn. Run some Oranguru SSH to get the card that you Smoothed Over into your hand and to set Fire Energy on top of the deck on turn 1. Run more Giant Hearth and Fiery Flint instead of Fire Energy. Run more Pokemon searching cards like 4 Quick Ball, 2-3 Evolution Incense, and 2 Pokemon Communication. I'd take out the Charizard and Braixen GX as it's more of a liability than anything. You can run 1 Dedenne GX or Eldegoss V (Eldegoss V is by far the cheaper option) for added consistency. If you want to boost your damage output, run Clefable RCL to set up an Energy on the top of your opponent's deck and hit those magic numbers of 280 or 200. You can also try running Chip Chip Ice Axe to get an Energy card on top, but it's a lot less reliable than Clefable.

also you can run rec clafable, which is another damage booster and can be a disruption card, while ruining it with nets. this hits 200 with entai, and 280 with magmortor.

I think the idea of orbettle can be used here with its ability you can get oppornent's energy on the top of their deck and use entie or magmator to discard them, i was thinking about making this type of deck.
