Basic Has Two Definitions

Recommended Posts

Salmancer

A Basic Pokémon is a Pokémon that can put into play without needing an additional effect or a Pokémon in play to evolve from. Also it means you can start the game using that Pokémon and a minimum of 1 is needed to have a legal deck.

A Basic Energy is an Energy that provides only 1 unit of a specific type and players can put any number of them into a deck.

This means that "Basic"  in the Pokémon Trading Card Game is an adjective that has two different meanings. Isn't that a bad thing because it could create confusion? Like say, a player thinking they can put any number of Basic Pokémon with the same name in their deck in their deck or a player thinking you need at least 1 Basic Energy to have a legal deck?

They both mean basic as in 'basic' or 'simplest' form.

Thank you for the simple explanation of what "basic" is as regards Pokémon and Energy!
