Announced at today's Pokemon Direct was the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, which is a DLC coming in two parts.

The first part is called The Isle of Armor, which will be coming in June. It's a new island named "The Isle of Armor," which will have beaches, forests, bogs, caves, and sand dunes. It also has a dojo where you'll be able to take an apprenticeship under the master of the dojo.

The second part is called The Crown Tundra, which will be coming in the Fall. It's a new snow-swept landscape called "The Crown Tundra," where you'll be the leader of an exploration team and explore the full depths of the Pokemon dens you find in the Wild Area.

More old Pokemon will be appearing through the Expansion Pass. Two versions of it will be available to purchase, one for each game, and will cost $29.99 (at least in North America). They're now available to pre-purchase on the official Sword and Shield website. Special outfits will be given as a bonus for pre-purchasing. Purchase the version that matches the game you have.

New Pokemon revealed in the Direct:

  • Kubfu: Fighting-type Wushu Pokemon that appears in The Isle of Armor. It's a serious Pokemon dedicated to its training and dwells in distant mountains.
  • Urshifu: Kubfu's evolution that will have two different forms: Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style. Single Strike Style is Fighting/Dark, while Rapid Strike Style is Fighting/Water. It will have a Gigantamax form.
  • Calyrex: Psychic/Grass King Pokemon that appears in The Crown Tundra.
  • New Galar forms for Slowpoke, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos were seen. Slowpoke is available now through a new update, which involves a sidequest at Wedgehurst Station. Slowpoke will evolve to Slowbro in The Isle of Armor and Slowking in The Crown Tundra.
  • Gigantamax forms were revealed for Venusaur, Blastoise, Rillaboom, Inteleon, and Cinderace.

Other news from the Direct:

  • Pokemon Home will release this February.
  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX was announced for the Switch. It's a remake of the first Mystery Dungeon games that will include Mega Evolution. It'll release on March 6 and a demo is available now. Save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game.

Yeah, with the Switch being brand new territory, chances are the DLCs are going to replace the sequels, the same way third games were replaced.  Right now, feels like by Gen IX, might actually have a game that is a MMORPG.
