Thoughts on the state of PTCGO

I've been a huge fan of Pokemon since it's release. The cards have always been something that have made me very happy collecting them even today as an adult. I've played many hours of the online TCG. I played mostly back in 2013. It saddens me to come back now, 6 years later to see that very little has changed. The card game feels uninspired and seems as just a way for this mega corporation to rake in cash from children. Like it's just a cheap coat of paint and it's being held together by string.

And it's really a game that I care about because why would I bother to make a forum post if I didn't care? I see what the game is, and then I see what it could be. PTCGO has been out for roughly 7-8 years? Since HGSS's release IIRC. The card game to me feels terribly neglected. They follow the same formula every expansion. The fact they have vastly overpowered cards with Team Up that can be played your first turn and then a few energy later you're completely unstoppable just feels like lazy design because the developers have run out of ideas for mechanics of the game. I also don't see how it has been this long and the animations are still the exact same as when I was playing 6 years ago? The art design of the game's characters are awful. Not the art of the cards, which I know for certain was not designed by the same creators. The art of the people in the game. They remind me of a training software program I had to do when I got a job working in retail.

They need to completely gut the outer layers of the game, new UI, new character art, new animations. I also am completely amazed that PTCGO has NOT moved to mobile. Mobile gaming is a HUGE source of revenue for TCGs. The switch? NINTENDO?! HELLO?! HUGE PILE OF MONEY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU! What 9 year old doesn't have a phone or a tablet? Elder Scrolls Legends, Magic, are both on mobile, the developers need to learn from what their competitors are doing and see what makes their TCGs great and see what can be done to make  this TCG better than it's current sad state.

I hate for this to be a totally negative thread. I do find the TCG fun. But when you're starting as a new player or coming back after a while and all of your old cards no longer work in the current meta, it feels like a waste. I appreciate the work that the developers have put into the game, it's a good start, but it seems like they've had little progress over the years and they've just been releasing new sets for the game without anything else being updated.

in terms of the cards and mechanics of the cards, the devs of ptcgo has no control over that, they take whats used in real life and put it into the game, you will need to contact pokemon laboratory in japan for that.

in terms of ptcgo the game itself, it was never meant to be a competitive or evolving game. last i checked they even posted that this client was for practice, no where does it mention its meant for competitiveness.

@LuckyLucario94 As stated elsewhere in the forum by other members the resources for the game are quite limited and the devs have to work with the Unity engine so it can work cross platform like it does now.
