Marshadow GX VS Alolan Ninetails?

This might be the wrong area for this but I just wanted to know how does Marshadow GX's ability go through Alolan Ninetale's ability that, and I quote, " Prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to this Pokémon by your opponent's Pokémon-GX and Pokémon-EX. "?

Marshadow's ability is using the attacks of the KO'd not temporarily reviving them so they can attack for one move so shouldn't it be blocked by Ninetale's ability? If so then maybe this thread should be moved to the Report a Bug sub-forum.

Its only my opinion but propably its like if the KO'd pokemon attack your Ninetale's instead of the Marshadow.

It will indeed stop the damage.  The pokemon attacking is still Marshadow-GX, so luminous barrier will negate any effects.

Marshadow-GX can copy the attack of any Basic Pokémon in your discard pile, right?  With that, you can copy attacks, such as Larvitar, that may read, "This attack's damage isn't affected by any effects on your opponent's Active Pokémon."  This would bypass Alolan Ninetale's Luminous Barrier.

Thanks everyone for the response. Next time I will pay attention to who was in the discard pile but I am pretty sure it was a Rotom deck but I could be wrong.

General rule of thumb:

Marshadow GX is the one attacking, this means:

  • Pokemon with abilities that prevent damage from GX Pokemon won't take any damage, no mater if the copied attack is from a regular, or an GX / EX Pokemon

  • Weakness and Resistance is based on Marshadow's type (fighting), regardless of the type of Pokemon whose attack he's copying

  • every other benefit on the field that modifies damage / energy cost, etc. will only apply to Marshadow if it corresponds to Marshadow's type (i.e. Fighting Stadium would increase his damage, while a Dimension Valley wouldn't reduce his energy requirement, even if it were to use a psychic attack)

  • additional effects on attacks can overrule above mentioned statements (see the Larvitar example by Rob)

Yes, if you can turn off Alolan Ninetale's Ability, then Marshadow-GX can attack and do damage to it (possibly KOing it).  However, remember that most folks prefer to use Marshadow-GX's own Ability to copy an attack from a Basic Pokémon in your discard pile.  If you had either version of Garbodor with Garbotoxin in play, with a Tool attached so that Garboxotin was working, then Marshadow-GX can attack Alolan Ninetales for damage but it will have to use its own attack or GX-attack.
