How should i go about collecting cards and making a deck ?

so i started playing this game a week ago, i bought the blazing volcanoes theme deck and i'm currently at 456 in the versus ladder by playing theme . but playing just theme gets boring rather quickly . i want to collect cards and make a good deck for other modes . but how should  i do that ? should i buy booster packs with my coins or more theme decks to get trainer cards like cynthia which i have heard is the best and if yes then which ones ?or should i save my coins for when newer cards come ?

if your goal is to collect cards and make decks asap, then id suggest getting a few of those theme decks with the trainers you need so you dont have to trade for them later.

after that, learn one of the tier 1 theme decks and enter into events and win tradable packs and use those packs to get cards you need via trading.

unlocked packs in this game is like currency, most cards on the public trade market will want packs.

Start by collecting all of the staple cards. You can look up the current Pokemon TCG Staple cards through a Google search.

 

Then, you can start buying some packs of you want to. What packs you buy and if you even buy packs is your decision.

 

Buy some code cards. A code card can be found in an realistic TCG pack. You can buy lots off of websites as well. The packs you buy from the store are not tradable. The packs you get from codes are. So NEVER open your unlocked packs. At the bottom of the pack area it will tell if it is tradable or not.

 

Use the tradable boosters to get the cards you need for your deck. Or use them to get the cards that you want.

 

Start with this first, then I will start helping you brainstorming deck ideas of you want.

I would start collecting to newest theme decks from the standard format.

You will have 4 cynthia cards very quickly. Same for the other important cards.

 

After 12 victories in trainer challenger with 1 theme deck, you will get a booster.

Also, when you beat a trainer with 4 different theme decks, you also get a booster.

And if you beat every trainer with 4 different theme decks, you also get boosters.

 

At last, for daily challenge, owning a good theme decks for each element is very useful.

When your daily challenge level will be high (I don't know how high, tough...), you will be able to win tradable boosters.

Playing theme decks in vs mode is also a good start. In vs mode you will get quite a few event tickets with which you can enter events. The boosters you win there are tradeable. Since you dont have good decks, you should play the theme deck events.
With the tradeable boosters you can trade for the missing cards for your deck.
