Hi There,

I am looking to identify a pokemon card i have - problem is that i cannot find it in the database.

It is a Pikachu Card 025/151 - It says on it:

text:   'This is an extremely rare Pikachu card, You are very lucky to have found it'.

I have spent a long time googling for it but cant seem to find it.

Is it really Rare? Does it have a name? Will upload a picture if i can figure out how to.

Nope its not that card. loads of those came up when i googled it. I still havent found an image of this one yet.

This one has Pikachu holding a staff and wearing a hat (turban style) with a gem in it.

Finally found a picture through reverse image searching it., but cant seem to show an external link  😕

Google 'Extremely Rare Pikachu Card' and its second along on Google Images.

Definitely 025/151, not 114/115

Does anyone know what this card is officially called, and if it actually is of any rarity at all?

Thanks

Oscar

Thanks to Mod who helped post the pic, much appreciated

Thanks RGB,

So, im sure its not a fake. It came out of some packs i bought from Smyths toy store as stocking filler for my son just before Christmas.

Its shiny gold (holo?) on the borders and in the background of the main picture, which the image above doesnt really show. (the image above isnt our one, it was found on google, and looking further into it, there was one on a Portuguese site too).

What makes it suspicious?  That its not showing in the database?  All info very much appreciated.

Yeah, it looks fake.

Some indicators:

  • over at Bulbapedia you can search for “Pikachu TCG” and it will list all Pikachu cards printed in every set, including promos. A quick look at the list reveals that none have the set number 25/151, which is, as RGB pointed out, Pikachu's Pokedex entry.

  • It's very suspicious that the card has the exact attacks and flavour text of the BW Pikachu I posted above

  • Based on the artwork this card would definitely be printed as a promo and not as the regular version you find in the set. Hence the 25/151 is even more suspicious

  • Kouki Saitou has done a lot of artworks for promo Pikachu's over the years and I highly recommend checking out his work. He has also painted the image for the above mentioned 115/114 Promo Pikachu from B&W. However, your image can't be found under his repertoire in any database

Given those points I'm quite certain that this was home-made, with the BW promo Pikachu as the base template. Maybe it was handed out by a store as a gift, who knows.

Either way it's a cool looking card and while you probably won't be able to sell it for much profit, I'd suggest keeping it for it's own uniqueness.

Edit: There is always a chance that the store by accident brought some cheap packs from a shady shop. The lack of any edition symbol on the card is another indicator that something smells really fishy here.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's got to be fake.  Unfortunately, there are many fake packs and cards, especially from international sources, since they don't worry about U.S. law, or prosecution.

1.  The numbering, as mentioned above, is almost a dead giveaway.  Not much else is needed to "make it suspicious."  There were 151 original Pokémon (from Kanto Region), and Pikachu is #25 in that Pokedex.

2.  If yours matches the picture that @GuruLot added, the number 025 doesn't match anything released.  If you look, they don't add zeros in front of card numbers (it's 1/XX, not 001, or it's 25/XX, not 025).

3.  The kicker is the set numbering, 151.  There is no English language set that has 151 cards in it (not ever).

4.  With a copyright of 2016, there's no set symbol.  It's up to you whether you believe us or not, but there haven't been any cards, sets, or promos that came out recently without an identifying symbol.  The only numbered set without a set symbol was the original Base Set in 1999.

5.  Just about everything is off from normal cards, including fonts, alignment, energy symbols, etc.

It's still a fun conversation piece.

Thanks for your responses.

I cant really argue with what you have said. Whats the point of going to the experts if youre just going to rubbish what theyre saying.

I dont know much about these, the numbering systems or edition numbers, which is why i came to you guys.

However, i can say wholeheartedly it did come from a pack sold in store which does raise questions as to Smyths supply chain. Also means that there are other fakes in my sons collection which is a shame.

Im not disappointed, didnt think it was worth much other than a curiosity, just wanted to know some more about it and you have certainly done that.  So, many thanks for your help.

Regards

Oscar

I think it's fake, see the card text,

Like, see it, how the text is in the above one and the below one. The below one is a real one.
Or if you argue that this (bottom) is from S&M Series, and the above is from B&WSeries......,
Then see the next card, it is from B&W series Promo, so it's clearly a fake card
