Im coming back since Ultra Prism (I think it was, I was playing Koko/Necrozma/Honchcrow Spread, I have no cards IRL and online I only have old stuff (which now seems to be borderline worthless :()
Anywho my previous competitive experiences have been with, in order: Turbo Flareon, Mewtwo/Bats,  Donphan/Robo Sub, VerGen, Yveltal, Yveltal/Zoroark/Gallade, Exeggutor Lock, Turbo March,  Yveltal/Archeops, Metagross GX, Scizor EX, and last but not least Koko Spread which was my brain child before it started to catch on.
Im sorry that was such a long list but I wanted to be very descriptive of my past experiences and playstyles for helps sake.
So with these things in mind could you make suggestions for very budget friendly (IRL and Online) decks that are Tier 2 and up? I dont mind tier 2 i can make them work.
Please and thanks for your time and info in advance - Christopher ❤️

What about Weezing (UNB)?  It isn't super budget-friendly, but it isn't too bad, either.  @HarbingerX3 if you really don't have "trade reserves" to get started again, nor a currently competitive deck to grind the Reward Ladder and have a chance of winning Events, you might need to swallow your pride and go back to the Theme Format for a while.

I mean, I wouldn't even call it swallowing your pride.  While I can and do build at least semi-competitive Standard and Expanded Format decks, I enjoy the Theme Format for its pick-up-and-play simplicity, and shifting my skills more towards "Responding to what I know my opponent is running." and away from "Responding to what I think my opponent may be running."  Probably because I am not as good at the latter. XD

Oh no, Ive already been destroying the theme tournament events lol, good play makes those a ********** trade reserves seem pretty **** useless tbh like ive gone to acceptable trades for packs and the only things that show up are ****** under valued trades for a couple things like dark patch, laser, and banks, and people that want the holo rare jirachi, thats about it, its bad.
Ive been eyeing up the weezing so ill defnitely push for that i think :)

I gotta be careful how I word stuff; yeah, there isn't anything that is truly a safe "investment"; the market for the cards fluctuates even for certain older powerhouses, be they singles, boosters, or rare whatevers.

But having some packs to start with can get the trading chain going, though I suppose the same is true for spares of certain cards.  The times I've been gone for a bit, I've found it easier to kickstart things even when I've had less-than-valuable packs.  The main thing is patience, both with looking for others' postings and making your own.

A couple of possibilities:

  • Muk & Alolan Muk TTGX /malamar /dust island  (LOVE this.  It's the first time poison has ever been good in the TCGO, if we except slow hypnobank decks.)
  • Tool Drop with doublade TeU and Genesect-GX (not super practical, but there's no feeling like laying 260 damage on a tag team for one energy attachment to a 90-HP little guy.)
  • Shining Genesect /naganadel (this is probably past its prime.)
  • Tapu Koko /honchkrow (a bit outdated now, but your old friend is still usable.)

I am also a returning player, but haven't played for years, almost all my cards are out of season. Playing trainer challenge to get packs, and bought a bunch of theme deck code cards(waiting on the mail) to re-learn the game in theme format. Almost done with all the trainer challenges and have earned a lot of newer cards but am wondering what Sun & Moon series I should invest in for packs to get back into Standard? Will likely just buy code cards and not physical packs unless I really get into the game again. What series would be the best bang for my buck? Any advice much appreciated!

You could try maybe building a stall/anti-meta deck? (Not sure if you are that kind of player though, based on your past decks :P) Other than that, I would probably go with Weezing (UNB) or Lost March for budget friendly.

I would buy the most recent boosters, since they have tag teams.

Thanks! I just ordered the following since I have very little Sun & Moon cards:

36x Team Up

36x Forbidden Light

36x Ultra Prism

20x Celestial Storm

20x Lost Thunder

20x Unbroken Bonds

20x Dragon Majesty

Sounds like a plan.  Now, did you get them for opening, for trading,  or both?  Sorry if this was established earlier, but I wanted to make sure you knew that the PTCGO trade economy is largely based on cards for packs, as we have no other "common currency" with which to facilitate trades.

Both, will open at least half, maybe more, and see what I get! Plan on saving at least 10 from each set for trading so I have whatever packs people could want.

I also have an assortment of 50ish black and white boosters and a dozen or so XY. Is there a market for Unlimited boosters/cards? I have 1000s of unlimited cards, many rares/old OP cards.
