Good deck to buy TCG shop

I want to buy my first deck on the TCG shop. Didn't know if anyone had any suggestions on which ones would be a good deck to buy?

You have multiple options:

Blazing Volcano: best deck IMO, but it's focused on combo's, so if you're relatively new to the game this may not be the deck for you
Relentless Flame: also a very hard hitter, and this time with a very straight-forward gameplan
Imperial Command: third best deck in general IMO, this deck particularly shines in PvP thanks to the above 2 decks being the best
Hydro Fury or Torrential Cannon: plenty of people consider 1 of these decks to be better than Imperial Command, so if you want a water deck, consider these 2 as well rather than immediately taking Imperial Command
Mach Strike: honorable mention. It's not as good as the above decks IMO, but it can very nicely compete with them

After these, Storm caller and Battle mind could be the next options in no particular order. Far from all the above mentioned tho.

Probably too late, but here is what I suggest you consider, and why.  They are listed in reverse release order, meaning the newest stuff is first; not order of quality.  If it isn't on here, I don't think it is worth it anymore.  Also, you're better off getting at least a few of these; for the sake of variety, to try and take advantage of the Theme Format metagame (yes, there is one XD), to handle more Daily Challenges, or even just to learn them so you can better beat them.

  • Battle Mind - High Supporter count.  Multiple viable attackers, but all of them really need time to build or Welder.
  • Lightning Loop - High Supporter count.  Multiple viable attackers, but all of them really need time to build or Magnezone.
  • Relentless Flame - Good supporter count.  Multiple viable attackers.  Only Nidoqueen requires a lot of setup.
  • Torrential Cannon - Exploits [W] Weakness.  Attackers are small (Golduck), self-damaging (Blastoise), or "technical" (Pidgeot).  I recommend avoiding this one, at least in the short run.
  • Blazing Volcano - Great Trainer count.  Multiple viable strong attackers, which use different strategies (pro and con).  Very [W] Weak.  Highly recommend this one, even if there's a learning curve.
  • Storm Caller - Very good Trainer count.  Multiple viable attackers.  Sick lock potential, but prone to bricking.
  • Hydro Fury - Good Trainer count.  Multiple viable but Energy hungry attackers.  Way less reliable than it "should" be, given its contents.  Only useful now because of Type-matching.
  • Leaf Change - Good Trainer count.  Multiple viable but Energy hungry attackers.  Manectric-opens and good Type-matching keep it viable: Fire is best, so people play a lot of [W], and you hit two-out-of-three [W] Weaknesses.  Punish people who run Torrential Cannon.
  • Tropical Takedown - Good Trainer count.  Multiple viable attackers, but requires Type-matching or setup.  Just barely holding on, but I find it "fun".
  • Mach Strike - Power creep would have left this behind, but the Ascension attacks means it is still mean at grinding if you aren't worried about building a streak.
  • Imperial Command - Multiple good attackers.  Decent amount of Trainers.  Type-matching and/or Bench-heavy decks keep it a viable counter-deck.  If you want to exploit the [W] Weakness of Battle Mind, Blazing Volcano, or Relentless Flame, this is the one to use.

Otakutron why should I buy them as soon as I can afford them? Do they get rid of decks?

Thankfully, not anymore: they used to pull them as their sets rotated out of Standard but now they are all just available and will stay available.  However, I misspoke when I said you should get them as soon as possible.  In fact, I'd already edited my comment before you posted a reply (or at least, before your reply showed up on my end).  The edited version answers what you asked.

I find the Theme Format is handy for grinding without worrying about having the most recent list for my Standard or Expanded Format decks.  Theme Decks aren't "evergreen", either; while always legal, sooner or later the best deck joins the rest of the "Don't waste your time" Theme Decks.  There are many staples and generally useful cards spread out among the Theme Decks.

Oh, and if you take one of these Theme Decks and win 12 times in the single-player "Trainer Challenge", it unlocks a non-tradeable booster pack.  Not a good deal if you just want the booster pack but if you're going to get a Theme Deck anyway, it is like a 200 Token "rebate".

  • 1 year later...

professors > Cinthias imo, reshuffling the same cards that are whiffing in your hand is  way way worse than discarding... too many people scared to discard and then reshuffle cards mechanics
