One idea from newbie :)

Hello guys!

I am a newbie, and maybe I don't understand something. But the tournament system is too difficult for beginners. 

Couldn't you rework one thing, or at least think about it. I think the tickets also need to be tradeable. It will make life of beginners too easier. I have more than 150 tickets, but i can't play in tournaments, they make me suffer. I can't win even first stage. Please have pity on the newbies, and make the tickets tradeable for boosters, decks, or something. Thanks for reading.

Hmm, I have to say your concern is understandable. Unlike the VS Ladder, there is no matchmaking in events. The reason for this is a purely practival one: there's never more than just a handful of people in queue for events at any given time. This means that if the events waited until 8 players of a similar MMR to join to start, you could potentially be waiting over an hour. There's not much that can be done about that, we simply don't have the astronomically large playerbase it would require to implement matchmaking in events and not make waiting times beyond reasonable.

 

Making tickets tradable would actually not be that bad of an idea, but keep in mind most people would only trade you the equivalent of getting past the first round in packs (so, 2 or 3 random packs for every 8 tickets). The person who takes your tickets needs to make a profit, so you'll get reduced value for them.

 

Now, I DO have somewhat of a solution for you: only play Theme Deck events and only use the strongest deck available in the meta at the moment (right now that would be either Relentless Flame or Blazing Volcano). You can buy a Theme Deck for just 500 Tokens. Use it in the VS Ladder for a while until you get used to it. When you take it to events, more often than not you should make it past the first round. The reason I say this is because even if there's a gap between you and your opponent in terms of skill, no one should ever have a significant advantage over you in terms of deck. This should net you 1 or 2 packs every 4 tickets, which is more than less what you could expect to get by trading tickets if such a thing were possible.

 

Just don't play Standard and Expanded events until you have a stronger deck. Theme is the best option for beginners.

I imagine stuff like this is the same reason even larger player base games (like hearthstone) don't have automated tournaments.  It's hard and complicated to do because it also requires a time dedication.

 

I would agree with the other person of just sticking to ladder or theme events.

 

What I would like to see with events making them larger with like a massive daily tournament (start time can rotate so more people can par-take).  Kind like how a real life event would be handled where it's not a simple 8 person thing and would possibly allow for stuff like double elimination.
