Latest Charizard in Versus?

It has come to my attention that it is impossible to play competitively against a Charizard that gets 2 Fire Energy from the deck, even though it takes 20 hp of self damage. Charmander + Rare Candy + Charizard = second-turn opponent wipe out. Behind 6 prizes to 2 before anything defensive can be constructed.

 

Am I the only player with non-Fire decks that repeatedly cannot stand against it?

Why does Versus pick such an opposing deck?

I think perhaps you are just having bad luck.

Charizard is a very strong card, but its limitations keep it from being tier 1.  Of course, that means other non-tier-1 decks will still have quite the struggle against it.  But it's certainly not overpowered.

Versus isn't picking opponents based on decks but rather based on hidden elo. If I for example would pick pikarom instead of zapdos it would have no effect on matchmaking whatsoever.

 

Charizard decks are actually quite balanced due to it having some cinsistency problems and decks like zapdos being everywhere. This could change after next expansion but I doubt it.
