Unbroken Bonds Prerelease Promos (and how good they are)

Hello! As you may know, the Unbroken Bonds Prerelease Promos have been leaked! Many people had predicted that the TEU Prerelease Promos couldn’t be beat, and they were right. But anyways, today, I am going to show you then and how good they are. They will be posted down below.

Persian – Colorless – HP100

Stage 1 – Evolves from Meowth

Ability: Cats’ Gathering

Each of your Pokemon in play with a Cat Day attack pay no Energy to use their attacks.

[C][C][C] Claw Swipe: 90 damage.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)

Resistance: none

Retreat: 0

This is good for its retreat cost. 0 is nothing bad, even out of prereleases. It’s Cat’s Gathering ability, is why I believe it was chosen for prereleases. The Cat Day attack basically says “Draw X amount of cards. This Pokémon is now asleep.” X will equal 1 for cards like Litten and Espurr, but 3 is the most you’ll get and you’ll only get it from Meowstic. Not the best attack. This isn’t the best promo, and I think many others can agree.

Rating: 2 out of 5

Melmetal – Metal – HP150

Stage 1 – Evolves from Meltan

Ability: Metal Eater

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may discard a Metal Pokemon card from your hand. Then, heal 100 damage from this Pokemon.

[M][C][C][C] Heavy Impact: 130 damage.

Weakness: Fire (x2)

Resistance: Psychic (-20)

Retreat: 4

This could be a good stall deck at a prerelease. It’s ability lets you heal 100 damage from it per turn. Also, with UNB cards like Alolan Dugtrio which ability let’s your Metal Pokémon take 10 less damage, Metal Core Barrier which the Metal Pokémon it’s attached to takes 70 less damage until it’s discarding at the end of your opponent’s turn, and Lucario & Melmetal’s GX attack, this could be really good at stall. Though most of its other aspects are not appealing.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Stakataka – Fighting – HP120

Basic Pokemon (Ultra Beast)

Ability: Stone Fence

If your opponent has 3 or less Prize cards remaining, this Pokemon’s maximum HP is 200.

[F][F][C] Top Down: 110 damage. Flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, discard a card from the top of your opponent’s deck.

Weakness: Grass (x2)

Resistance: none

Retreat: 4

This isn’t the best. Since it’s a prerelease, each player has 4 prize cards, so this Pokémon will have 200 HP for the majority of the game. The attack isn’t that good for a prerelease.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Volcanion – Fire – HP120

Basic Pokemon

[R] Flare Starter: Search your deck for a Fire Energy card, reveal it, and attach it to 1 of your Pokemon. Then, shuffle your deck. If you’re the player going second, on your first turn you may search your deck for up to 3 Fire Energy cards instead and attach them to your Pokemon in any way you like.

[R][R] High Heat Blow 50+ damage. If 4 or more Fire Energy are attached to your Pokemon in play, this attack does 60 more damage.

Weakness: Water (x2)

Resistance: none

Retreat: 2

This has to be THE BESt. If you can pull off Flare Starter on T1, you can attach 3 Fire Energy to your Pokémon however you want. If you pull a Reshizard with this Promo, you’ll do really well. Also, with the fire support like Welder and Fire Crystal coming out, I could possibly see this in competitive play. Flare Starter can help pull of the bonus damage form High Heat Blow. It has a 2 retreat cost, is a basic, and can hit weakness on Melmetal, one of the better promos. I view this as the best promo.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Overall Ratings:

1. Volcanion

2. Melmetal

3. Stakataka

4. Persian

What do you guys think? Would you revise my list? If so, what would you change?

Thanks for reading!

You are slightly mis reading persian... It means all cat day mons have free attacks. So litten does 60 for nothing, espurr hits hard vs bench mons, meowstic becomes scary... It is actually a really nice card. Expecting them to give you 1 of each cat day in the pack. Volc likely will get welder and crystal, and likely salazzle or arcanine, not sure on staka maybe dugtrio, and melmeltal will have some metal mons in. Persian is defo better than staka and maybe even melmetal

You noticed that people will have 3 or less prize cards for most of the game. Why is 200 HP not good. Couldn't it be a good stall/milling deck in the pre release tournaments.

Honestly, I think not. Most of the better pulls really will be able to2HKO it, and it’s attck really isn’t that good. Metal types are better for stall (especially Melmetal) because of the reasons listed on post 1.
