Fun Game but can we get...

I love Pokemon. I loved the series when I was growing up and the cards were great although I never understood playing the card game when I was a kid I just liked collecting them.

On the topic of the card game I started playing this game first here online about 2 years ago or something. There's just one thing I wish could be implemented as an optional game/match mode and that is a time limit per turn.

Yes we have a time limit but that can easily be bypassed by interacting in game but not exactly ending your turn. I'm thinking more on the lines of like Time Chess where each player gets a set time (a minute and thirty seconds each ideally) that runs down as you play your turn. The game ends in three ways. Like traditionally knocking out your opponents Pokemon or running out of cards throughout the duration of the game or by either opponent running out of time.

I feel implementing this time trial game mode in the game as an alternate option would speed matches much more quickly. Sometimes I feel certain opponents take ages (like 2 - 3 minutes per turn ) with their thinking and that quick games aren't really an option as some games can last from 15 to 20 minutes.

The game mode doesn't have to be permanent either. It can be available during weekends and holidays. Plus adding certain rewards like avatar goodies would be a nice incentive to have players try out the mode.

So these are my thoughts and now they're out there. Thanks for taking your time reading this. Have a nice day.

This exists. It is the way the game is. Admittedly, it's not as harsh as some people would like.

In versus, each player has a timer under their avatar showing the time they have remaining. When it runs out, they lose. In tournaments, that time is cut in half.

You can win in 6 ways:

  1. take all of your prize cards
  2. knock out your opponent's final pokemon
  3. wait for your opponent to run out their deck
  4. wait for opponent's timer to run out
  5. use a card that declares you the winner (Unown)
  6. have your opponent concede

Liked it or not, this is a game that reguires thinking and while you may do your turn in 1 min or less, for me it might very well be that said 2-3 mins, in extreme cases more. Now then, I'm not intentionally trying to time stall. Rather I always like to play with possibilities of what I could do. How likely would it be for me to draw certain card with cynthia? Would it be better to just guzma and take ko? Do I need to get certain mon down? In which situation will that set me? What should opponent have and how likely will he have cards to react to this and so ***** playing Archie's blastoise I have found myself spending nearly 5 minutes on first turn. Why? Well you try to manage such things such as how to set up your handsize to 0,then going archie, then playing couple trainers, then shaymin, couple trainers, blastoise abiility and heck, before you notice you are have gone from 25 minutes to 21 minutes or even lower. I can share game logs after I have played few games of this.

Also as this is simulation of actual pokemon tcg I would view that it would greatly diverse the online and irl play from each other.

Edit:Sorry for reading in rush. I can agree that such game mode would be great for the game ^^

Sorry the 6 ways. I knew I was forgetting some but I was on my way to bed so I wrote it in a rush.

Yes it exists but the timer can be reset if they play a card extending their time. When I play versus the timer only appears when you are taking too long and not playing anything and when the timer runs out its the next persons turn. Not exactly what I'm looking for or talking about.

That's why I wish they could put in a timed game mode  where there's a constant timer that doesnt reset between turns. making sure all games wont last more than 3 minutes each. Kind of like the game Time Chess (or Fast Chess) where you have to think on your feet and beat the clock as well as your opponent.

Yes it is a simulation but I'm sure there are some minor differences and adding a keyword optional game mode for people not like you it shouldn't take away from the real game. Not saying how you play is wrong or bad but some of us don't have 20-30 minutes to spare waiting for other people to think which card to play. So no one is forcing you to play a new game mode if they would ever consider this but dont trash it because there might be other people who want it as well.

The turn timer is reset, but the overall timer you described that says you have 25 minutes total is not reset.

This is a "video game," but then again it's not.  It's the Trading Card Game brought to our computers.  Unless the rules for the physical card game are changed, "Fast Pokémon" is never going to happen.

From the TCG Penalty Guidelines, you should note the "bolded" words.

8.4. Game Tempo

The pace of a Pokémon TCG match should be lively without being excessively fast, and each player should receive approximately half of the allotted time for the game. However, the way players react to pressure can have an impact on the tempo at which they take their turns. Judges should watch for changes in tempo and make corrections if needed.

In general, the following time limits for various game actions should be appropriate.

The times given below are general guidelines; players attempting to compartmentalize their turn in order to use every second of the time allowed for the items below are almost certainly stalling and should be subject to Unsporting Conduct penalties.

Performing the actions of a card or attack: 15 seconds

Shuffling and setup, game start: 2 minutes

Shuffling and deck search, mid-game: 15 seconds

Starting the turn after opponent’s “end of turn” announcement: 5 seconds

Considering the game position before playing a card: 10 seconds

Notes during a game should be taken using the same time limits listed above. For example, a player making a note about a mid-game deck search must do so in the same 15 seconds allowed for the action.

It doesn't completely reset.  Every time you go too long, you get less leniency.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

You know Im not gonna lie but I never noticed THAT timer until I posted my reply yesterday and jumped into a game but holy cow the game can last about 50 minutes which is far too long. I'm a very impatient person when it comes to waiting for something to happen so after about 20 minutes I would concede. I live a very fast pace life things or people cannot be slow around me. Guess that says a lot about my driving but I'm still safe I promise.

And on that note yes this is based off the IRL TCG which I understand but this is also a perfect platform to expand, try new ideas and make more money honestly. I made another post in this board about using real money to buy digital packs in game aside from the codes we get from packs (nothing expensive as it's digital) and implementing both ideas can make this game a hot commodity. Look at Hearthstone for instance. You can obtain free packs and pay for others. Now adding that to a "Fast Pokemon" would bring in more players especially if they leave all options open from playing traditionally to adding new game modes.

The timer rarely runs out. In a tournament, where the time is cut in half, I have had an epic match where the timers nearly ran out, but you'll usually run out of cards well before that.

(I've run into exactly one player using a deck that doesn't run out of cards. It was designed to get down to the last card and then stack just the needed ones back into the deck each turn, drawing the same ones over and over to power up, reset, and attack.)

Believe me, 20+ minute games are a very rare ocurrance. Most games are decided way before the 20 minute mark, so the 50 minute total is overkill.

The TCGO is for all intents and purposes just a testing ground for IRL players, so it's not surprising to see little to no deviation online when compared to RL play. Some extra things are possible but we can't expect them to go nuts doing exclusive content. Keep in mind that this game makes them essentially zero cash besides the people who presumably start playing offline because they first learned about it through the online version, so spending resources on exlusive content is probably not profitable.

That said, I don't know what's the deal with selling digital packs for cash (or rather, the fact that they donn't). Eeryone thought (or hoped at least) that gems would become available internationally one day. But instead, gems were simply shut down for good. I'm still happy for collectors at least since they won't have to pay over 1000 literal packs for new expensive gem gameplays, while only a select few can obtain them at their real price. However, everyone would have been happier if gems simply became available worldwide.

Since their canadian gem "experiment" lasted for years only for it to shut down rather than expand, I can only presume it was a financial faliure. I don't know jack about business, but I can't fathom why else they'd say no to easy money other than it being not-so-easy or even a net money loss.
