A new wave of bots in the Theme deck format?

Today I stumbled upon something interesting while browsing the Pokemon TCG homepage.

 

Almost all of the players in the top ranks of the leader board had a username that can only be described as “using your face on the keyboard as the primary input device”.

 

Upon further inspection I noticed that all of them:

•  

  were located in the Theme Deck format

•  

  had accumulated 3-4x the amount of points than the top players in the constructed formats

•  

  didn't have any avatar

•  

  are all located in the US or in Canada

 

 

As you may know, there used to be an extensive amounts of bots in the Legacy format back in the days, alongside players that would intentionally concede to one another, based on the coin flip, in order to progress faster through the reward ladder.

 

To my knowledge TPCI issued a massive ban wave and tried their best to contain the bots, however given those numbers I'm intrigued if the bots found a new home.

 

Since I don't play the format myself I'm curious if other users have had any experience with this?

 

 

 

Then again, maybe I missjudge those players and behind there seemingly random names are friendly players, who just couldn't be bothered to set their avatar.

Would you happen to know? ...What is the purpose of this?

 

We're talking about the VS Ladder leaders, right?  Why would someone take the time to get Tokens and trade-locked cards, that can't be transferred?

 

My brain doesn't work this way.  I'm just trying to understand.  If they're not playing for fun, personal satisfaction, or even gains/rewards, is there another reason?

There is more then those accounts, i wont post names since its against the rules but if the dev team really wants to know they can easily just go back to the previous leaderboards. Not to mention this has been brought up before as well with the other players.
