Prices for cards are wierd

Why is it that something like regular art Banette-GX or Suicune-GX goes for 1-2 packs but regular art Tapu-Lele GX is like, 12 packs? I understand Tapu-Lele GX is a really good card and sees play in alot of decks RN but the huge jump doesn't make sense to me, and that "bad" GX is the same price as a regular rare card. So if a card is really good it gets promoted to having a price of 10 packs? seems silly to me.

I may be a new player but I used to play back in 2015 and I don't remember a regular art Landorus-EX costing 12 packs, rather it used to cost 6 packs. What happened to prices of cards?

The going rate is what it is because that's what people are willing to pay.

Banette GX decks need Banette GX, and Suicune GX decks need Suicune GX, but nearly every deck benefits from Tapu Lele GX.

It's needed in more decks, so more of them are needed. Supply and demand at work.

When someone with a few hundred thousand of them starts offering them for 1 pack each, the price will start to came down.

When something, a new card or time, makes it obsolete, the price will start to come down.

Then, you better don't check Solgaleo GX Promo, Fairy Alolan Ninetales GX, Zoroark GX, Buzzwole GX, Blacephalon GX... and a reason is that last set is 214 cards. Back in "good old times" of Landorus EX, the sets were around 150 and in XY 115or 120 was common. Last sets come with around 130, 160, 170 cards and the last 214. The more cards, the more difficult to pull a good one. And prices rise.

But yes, you're right. Right now any GX is 1 pack. FA is 2. RR is 3, no matter which one (although you can get it for cheaper with patience). And good cards of the Meta decks went up the wall to +10 packs easily, each of them. Not to say Lele GX is now cheaper that it was time ago at around 20 packs (regular art). Go for it now costing around 13-14, it's a good deal.

That price drop might be because other things are already superseding it in many cases.

The most popular use was Ultra Ball > Lele > Brigette > a near-full bench on turn 1 for any deck. Brigette of course left Standard, so that play is gone for many people, who now have to make do with Alolan Vulpix and/or Fan Club.

Plus, the average number of Lele per deck has gone down.  It used to be 2-3, and now it's 1-2.

UB > Lele > Professor Elm's lecture. Also Nest ball, Brooklet hill, ... The combo is there, but a lot of 70HP even 80HP basics arrived and are being used because of how easy is to make 60 damage in turn 1 or 2.

In addition almost every player who needs Lele GX to play, already own they copies. It maintains still high because it's a need for a lot of players, and probably mainly it's a business for the trading profiteers and a way to keep the value of the packs when new sets release.

Blacephalon or Solgaleo can be a bad deck February 2nd. Lele still will fit any deck no matter what they release.

What I want to say is yes, you both are right
