Need help creating a Pokemon.

Hey everyone. I am completely unfamiliar with Pokemon. I was just wondering if anyone could help me in creating a Pokemon for a 6 year old kid. I have a couple of questions. First, the Pokemon is a psychic dragon and have no idea what symbol it should have for its type. The other is I gave it a power called Psychic Flames which uses 4 energy, deals 90 damage and ignores resistance. The second power is kind of a continuation of the first. It's called Psychic Channeling and it states if you have another psychic Pokemon on your bench, knock it out and deal 20 damage to each of your opponents benched Pokemon. I know it's pretty strong but that's the point. I made this kid his very own Pokemon, I even named it after him. I just want to know if these powers make sense or if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your time and help.

I admire what you're trying to do, and your ability to create a work of art.  I can't even do "stick people" properly.

The "powers" make sense, but (1) they're called Attacks, and (2) those attacks are pretty wimpy in today's game.  What we call "power creep" in the game has made most of the Pokémon put on their big-boy pants.

Pokémon cards used to have something called "Poke-Powers" or "Poke-Bodies," but they've narrowed it down to "Abilites."  It's usually a trick, acceleration, or defense.  For this special card, you could always think of an "Ability" in addition to the two Attacks.

As far as the "Energy type," I guess you could go either way.  There are both Dragon-type Pokémon and Psychic ones.  The Dragon version are usually more limited in Energies available (often requires two different types, or a special Double Dragon energy).  The Psychic-type may be better for the Energy symbol at the top, and really, who doesn't think a Psychic dragon is cool?  Since it's an unofficial card, you could always choose to make it dual-type, with both Energy symbols, but maybe that's too much?

As far as the Attacks, you may want to look at the free PTCGO (online app), and see what some of the latest cards are capable of (specifically, the last few sets).  Several of the newer cards hit much harder than 90 for 4-energy cost, so at a minimum you'll probably want to reduce it to 3-energy.  In fact, you may want to copy an existing card (regardless of what type it is), and reword it's capabilities to fit your theme.

You can download PTCGO here:

Thanks a lot man. That's all very helpful. I'll check that out for sure. I actually thought the "attacks" (look at that, I already learned something) were pretty strong but what do I know. Just to clarify when you say use both energy symbols at the top you mean next to the hit points right? That was the symbol I was confused about, just didn't know they were called energy symbols.

Yes, the Energy symbol is next to the Hit Points.  And actually, you could choose either one (dragon or psychic).  But mostly, do you want the background of your card to be gold-ish (dragon) or purple (psychic)?  That would be my first thought anyway.

EDIT:  If you're able to view PDF files, the best way to get a quick overview of the game and cards is the Pokémon TCG Rulebook.  It's easy to read, and graphical.  It's probably the single best "first step."  Besides, this lucky kid in your life will be impressed when you know the basics.

I was thinking yellow. So I guess I'll go with dragon. I downloaded that app and I see what you mean by those powers being weak. This is all very, very helpful. I've got all the art done and have been toiling over these powers and symbols and abilities for like two months. I wish I would have thought of coming on here sooner. I can't thank you enough for your help, honestly. Thank you so much.
