I tried making an Alolan Exeggutor CES deck...

It seemed like a good idea at the time, as I've been playing a bunch of them in standard. I thought it might be a consistent grass type deck to get me trainer challenge coins. Boy was I wrong! I've tweaked this deck list repeatedly, and I still end up losing almost every match that I play with this deck. I'm not sure if it's me not getting the formula right or what; the Internet has scant information about this deck, so I was unable to come up with a decent list that's even relevant (built around Alolan Exeggutor CES). I'll share what I have here, in case anyone has any ideas for how this deck could be improved, or else the thread will serve as a warning to those trying to make a deck around this possibly bad card.

*Alolan Exeggutor CES deck (gross three out of ten wins/played ratio):

* 2 Grovyle LOT 21
* 1 Lurantis PR-SM SM25
* 1 Sceptile CES 10
* 1 Sceptile-GX LOT 22

Trainer Cards - 29

* 2 Rescue Stretcher GRI 130
* 4 Lillie UPR 125
* 3 Cynthia UPR 119
* 3 Guzma BUS 115
* 3 Sightseer LOT 189
* 3 Ultra Ball SUM 135
* 2 Choice Band GRI 121
* 4 Net Ball LOT 187
* 3 Shrine of Punishment CES 143
* 1 Bodybuilding Dumbbells BUS 113
* 1 Life Forest {*} LOT 180

Hmm, for the most part this looks pretty solid to me. Some points that could use improvement:

>Use Tapu Lele-GX. If you don't have any then nevermind, since they are still pretty expensive still. If you do have some though, you really should include 1 at the very least (potentially even 2). Having Leles in your deck automatically convert all of your Ultra Balls into a Supporter card of your choosing. This massively improves the consistency of any deck, so do consider it.

>I would up the number of Ultra Balls to 4. Besides having a benched Grovyle, you have no other way of searching your deck for Evolved Pokemon. It also improves your consistency further if you do choose to include a Lele.

>Inver the proportions of Lillie and Cynthia. Cynthia is almost alway better than Lillie, the one exception being your very first turm. I would use 4 Cynthia and 3/2 Lillie. Lele lets you get away with a lower Lillie count (again, only if you have one already), since you have a way of searching the Lillie on your first turn.

>With 4 Stadiums you have good Stadium control but no tool removal, which may or may not be a problem depending on the game. You could consider using only 2 Shrines, and filling that spot with 1 Field Blower.

>Maybe you could take just 2 Sightseer instead of 3 to make some space for the extra Ultra Ball.

>Not sure this is a great idea so just disregard this if you don't agree (I myself think this is kind of iffy but I'm giving you the idea anyways). You could remove the Sceptile-GX if you need an extra spot for a Lele. Keeping the CES Sceptile seems like a good idea since it can auto-win you some specific matchups, and the main reason you run this line of Pokemon is to search more Pokemon with Grovyle so you're probably keeping the 2-2 Treeko-Grovyle regardless. I'm just thinking the space in this is pretty tight, so if I had to remove something for 1 extra space, it'd probably be Sceptile-GX.

Yikes! I thought for sure I dragged four Ultra Balls over with my mouse. I quickly corrected my error by removing the third Sightseer. I might remove something to squeeze in a field blower. I don’t have to worry about Choice Band as much, but the Wishful Batons and Exp Shares always keep coming back to bite me in this deck. I have one Tapu LeLe GX, but I’m not sure how it would fare in a Shrine of Punishment deck. The Sceptile GX is almost always prized up, and when it isn’t I typically don’t evolve until the last minute for fear of Shrine damage. That stadium is a double edged sword.

Yeah, using Shrine with any GX Pokemon in the Bench feels kinda bad, I agree. It kind of puts you against the clock since you have to end the game before your opponent takes 2 free prizes. You do have 8 turns to play before Shrine KOs the Lele, but the real problem is that it's a very easy Guzma target after losing some HP.

That said, being able to search any Supporter with Lele can possibly turn a game-ending hand into a playable. You could say it's high-risk but with a guaranteed high reward. I think it's worth testing a few games with the Lele. If it starts winning you more games than it loses you, it's a keeper. If the opposite is true, it's either bye-bye Lele or bye-bye Shrine (you'd have to test again which one brings you better results overall).

*sniff sniff*  Do I smell an Acerola situation?

Actually, you're right xd I didn't think of Acerola. I think he'd have to use 2 in the deck though, considering it's a Standard deck. I feel like without VS Seeker you can't really get away with using 1-of Supporters because there's a high chance you might have to discard them early.

But yeah, that seems worth testing out if Pokegen could make space for 1/2 Acerola.

Yeah, I agree. I've had 1 Acerola in my ******** deck for a while now, and I almost never draw her when I need her. Time to change it. :P
