Bug Regarding Altaria-GX ?

Hey, I'd just like to know if this is a bug or in fact a game mechanic.

I was playing Altaria-GX against a Skuntank (SM Ultra Prism 76/156 )

Skuntank's first attack has a text which states the opponent must flip 2 coins and if either is tails, the opponent's attack does nothing.

Altaria-GX's second attack states that it's damage isn't affected by any effects on the opponent's pokemon.

Altaria-GX's attack was blocked due to flipping tails.

Shouldn't the coinflip not matter due to the fact that the damage isn't affected by any effects?

This works as intended.

Skuntanks attack is as follows:

If the Defending Pokémon tries to attack during your opponent's next turn, your opponent flips 2 coins. If either of them is tails, that attack does nothing.

Altaria GX is as follows:

This attack's damage isn't affected by any effects on your opponent's Active Pokémon

Skuntank doesn't have any effect on him, the effect is on your own Altaria.

If you'd switch your Altaria the other Pokemon could attack without any coin flips, whereas if the effect was on the defending Pokemon, you'd have to flip coins regardless with whom you attack.

In addition to the above, I would think (but haven't confirmed) that the attack stating that the damage isn't affected wouldn't stop the test to see if the attack fails, even if the wording were such that the effect was on skuntank.
