I'm not tech savvy at all.  I'm trying to download the card game on my HP stream 13.  When I attempt to do so; about five seconds after clicking download the screen turns into a coded nightmare along with the terms and conditions of the game.  the game doesn't download and I've tried a number of times.  My internet connection is fine.  I don't know if my laptop is obsolete or what the issue is.  Any help would be great, thank you.

I'm new to Pokémon but my son is all about it. I'm trying to get involved and learn about the game and everything that's involved.

You're not alone.  There have been several new players trying to get this problem resolved for the past several months.

The problem is with their server.  If you have the Windows native browsers -- either Internet Explorer or Edge -- the server is not sending the proper MIME type to these browsers.  Rather than saving an executable file, we see their installer as a web page.  The best solution is to install another browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, which should download the file without this hiccup.

@Staff,

Shouldn't Windows users be able to download the Windows version of the game without difficulty, or this error?  How many just give up, and don't come to the forum for answers?  This has been ongoing for about 6 months now.

Again, the web server is not sending the proper MIME type to either Edge or IE (Windows native browsers).  Rather than downloading the "msi" file (executable), they are viewing it as an "htm" file (web page).  This error is specific to the PTCGO download, and not a problem with these native browsers (other sites download fine).

Adding the following line to the .htaccess file should fix the problem.

    AddType application/octet-stream .msi

Had to re-install the game lately, so I can confirm that using a different browser solves the problem.

And heck, they don't even have ton edit the .htaccess file. They can just do what literally every other website does: provide a direct link (you know, like those websites that say "download didn't work? Click here" or something along those lines), so people can right-click it and save the installer that way. Of course, editing the .htaccess is the best solution, but there should always be a direct link available as well.
