[PC] Updater removed .exe

I opened the game to redeem some code cards I had. Since I hadn't opened it in a while, the game immediately opened the refresher. After it was done, I hit Play, but nothing happened. Using my other shortcuts produced a warning saying that the file no longer existed at the location. I looked around for solutions and spent a few hours looking through every file I had but couldn't find the exe file anywhere. Using the search function couldn't find it anywhere on my computer. I tried to uninstall using my control panel, however, it can't find the game either.

I tried downloading a new installer, but it says that it doesn't have permissions to modify files, even though I gave it every permission I could, and am running it as an Administrator. It seems like the updater somehow deleted the exe file, and I'd rather have help before I delete everything.

It won't hurt to delete everything. It's the best (and usually only) way to fix serious problems. ALL of your cards, data, and statistics are stored on Pokemon's servers, so you won't lose your collection or anything.

After a complete reinstall -- if it's been a long time since you last played -- I've heard that it may take several hours for the server to find your stored data. That's uncommon though, and probably worst case scenario.

In this subsection, the very top post has some step-by-step instructions that might be useful.

P.S. There was one version, several months back, that required a complete reinstall when being updated. A ton of people, including me, got hit with that one.

Hey svallard1,

It can happen that during the update some files can be damaged due to connection issues. As RobRatt said, the best would be to delete all the game data and install it back.

If this situation persists I'd suggest that you send a ticket to the support team so they can investigate this matter further. To submit a ticket, click the link to the support portal in my signature, sign in on the top right side of the page, then select the relevant category and clicking Contact Us. Thanks for your patience, and good luck!

As RobRatt said, the best is to delete all game files and install back again.

Hello there svallard1,

If the RobRatt's suggestion didn't fix the issue, you might also want to try a clean reinstall.

Here's how to do it for PC Uninstall:

1. Go to the Programs and Features section your computer's Control Panel.
Select the game and uninstall it.

2. Go to the directory where the game was installed.
The default directory is C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData.

3. The game stores files in the LocalLow and Roaming folders.
Go into the LocalLow folder and delete the "The Pokémon Company International" folder. Go into the Roaming folder and delete the "Pokémon Trading Card Game Online" folder.

4. Empty your Recycle Bin and then restart your computer.

5. Please ensure that you also delete all previously downloaded versions of the game.
Try using a different web browser to download the file again (we recommend Firefox or Google Chrome).

Then, make sure that you are using the installer from the official page.

In the same page you can also double check that your PC meets the minimum requirements.

Let us know if that works!

Also, I have edited the title of this thread to match the format used in this sub.

Thank you!
