My 1st pokémon videogame (NDS Diamond) Story and help

So, I always wanted to play one of that pokémon games but, I never had a Nintendo. I've been recently borrowed a NDS with Pokémon Diamond so... started playing! OK Gen IV but, who cares it's Pokémon anyway!

So started with Chimchar (fire power!)

Caught a Starly, a Bidoof, a Kricketot, a Magikarp (lol) a Budew and a Shinx. Not bad. 6 in the team and 1 stored.

Learn to go to Pokémon center to heal my team. To connect the computer. To store the pokémon in boxes.

Went to shop to get pokéball, potions, antidote, paralyze heal... money spends so fast haha. BTW I thought Heal ball made the pokémon heal for next battle, but it seems only to be after caught, right?

Went town to town and was able to caught an Abra. My Chimchar learn Taunt I don't know why so Abra was unable to Teleport and... :D But seems impossible to level up as only knows this move and makes battles end. Useless...?

After that I got another Abra from a girl in a house, in exchange of a Machop. But seems impossible to level up as only knows Teleport and makes battles end. Useless...? Caught also a lot of Zubat, Geodude and an Onix in the caves.

Chimchar evolved into Monferno, got also Fight type and it seems that was good to get Mach punch and to get my 1st Gym badge against Rock+Ground pokémon. Wasn't easy! Also got Fury swipes... I feel forgetting Tackle to learn this, was not a good move, as bad as in PTCG

I have in my bag a Defend Battle item I could give to a Pokémon. Is this forever? It says "It wears off if pokémon is withdraw". It returns to the bag? I also have an Escape rope and a Quick claw that, I don't know how is used and I've read it's bad.

I got a TM10 > Hidden power, I gave to my Starly. It always do NOTHING. Don't know if I did it right or what is supposed to do. Any clue?

I have also an HM6. Rock smash. I need it to open a way to the north (or something like that). But I don't know what pokémon give it and how to use it OUT OF BATTLES. I wish I can get a Psyduck when the way is open :P

I got also a No76 Stealth rock. Same... who deserve it? This is one use only.

I stopped Shinx evolution twice. I wanted to be Lvl 17 to learn Spark before evolving. I already had Charge so I wanted to try this as a combo. Hope it works that way haha.

Right now the team is:

Monferno lvl16
Shinx lvl16
Budew lvl10
Geoude lvl9
Zubat lvl7
Magikarp lvl11 starting all battles to get EXP. I want a Gyarados!!

I feel Geodude is not great. Want Onix or Machop in... I don't know what one choose to the team. Tips?

Also, I don't know how to use the Pal pad. I think I have to connect to internet and... what else then? It worth for so an old game?

Leaving Oreburgh city with 1st Badge... what will be next? :D

You see, I really don't understand a bunch of things. And trying to get web info is full of numbers and % but, nothing is very clear. I feel I'm missing a lot of the joy.

If anyone feels that can help with anything, I'll be glad to learn :) Thanks.

You add the HM to one of your pokemon, if I remember the geodude, or machop should be able to use it. Then you just walk up to the rock your supposed to smash and hit A or whatever the button is and it should give you some kind of prompt.

Abra is really good. To level it up use a xp share, or have abra as your starter pokemon then switch it out for a different one, and it will get half the xp from the fight. Abra eventually gets more attacks and becomes very powerful.

Hidden power if I remember is a move that is considered a normal move, but will actually hit as if it was the type of the pokemon that used it. I could be wrong on that one.

Escape rope will teleport you out of a cave back to the entrance if I remember.

Wow, thanks. That was cool to know. Some was discovered right after the post... as I continued playing a bit :D

So even if a pokémon doesn't make a move in the battle, also get the EXP? I wasn't sure about it. I will check because I have been making one move with Magikarp every battle since now haha. I don't have an EXP share yet, that will be cool.

I introduced the Onix into the team. Rest Geodude!

Also gave HM6. Rock smash to Monferno. Was him or Onix, and both had already 4 moves. So Monferno forgot the awful Fury swipes  I only had to be close to the rock to choose Monferno smash it haha

I still need to try Onix in battles and so but have been tough to caught.

I'm still very lost with all the extra type not in the TCG and the multiple weaknesses...

Noob questions... what is the Speed for? Special attack and defence? What is an special attack? I don't know if I have any...

Why Supersonic Zubat's move fails so much? Hahah

Leaving Oreburgh city I was caught by the town friend and he left in a hurry... as always. How could I be friend of him? Ok, 25% of the town population, who else could be... hahah

Back to Jubilife, after some battles in the way... I have to say 15 Rock throw is not so much... and Onix doesn't have another move to directly hit. This will come trouble, I don't know when but I see it now! Lets go to Pokémon Center and to buy some Pokéball before going north. Should I spend ALL my money in potions and pokéball? Uhm... Asking myself where will be that mysterious surf I need to go to south...? Well, don't need it yet so not worried ;)

Go north but... oh no, Galactic grunt! Learning double battles!  Monferno's Ember will KO that Wurmple. It seemed to be Grass type, but is maybe Bug? Or both? Anyway, 1HKO, great!

We won so I got a Fashion case. It seems I will have to visit TV station for something strange haha. Where was that...?

Wow, a guitarist almost defeat all my pokémon. Why my Zubat doesn't fight that way?   hahha Also got a new feature for the watch. I don't like the watch. At least I can check pokémon health more or less.

All ready to go north!!

I have access now to World trading company to trade pokémon, should I?

Yes a pokemon does not need to make a move in order to gain XP from a fight.

Some moves are attacks and some are special attacks. Special attacks in general tend to be things like flamethrower or psychic, vs attacks like swipe and tackle.

Speed I think primarily determines which pokemon goes first, although Im sure it has some other effects.

Super sonic attack misses because it has a low chance to effect pokemon. Some moves are better than others. Although in general attacks that have effects like confuse or sleep miss a fair amount.

Yes a pokemon does not need to make a move in order to gain XP from a fight.  <- Right, but I've seen is not always working, I need to check more. THANKS!

Some moves are attacks and some are special attacks. Special attacks in general tend to be things like flamethrower or psychic, vs attacks like swipe and tackle.  <- I realised that's the different symbols the attacks have. Physical, Special and Status are the 3 possible categories. THANKS!

Super sonic attack misses because it has a low chance to effect pokemon. Some moves are better than others. Although in general attacks that have effects like confuse or sleep miss a fair amount. <-- 55% rate of accuracy. I'll have to learn that things! BTW, does the accuracy falls if the pokémon have low HP or used the attack a lot of times?

It's hard to learn everything haha.

Well, I went to flowers town. Being around, got some gifts... going to next town, Eternia I guess (not sure) but on the way a little girl ask me for help for his father. Went to Wind power station and fight against some Galactics. They wear so strange LOL

Got a Pachirisu, a Shellos and a Buizel. I would like to play them all but, rivals are growing stronger so I need the mid levelled pokémon that I already have in my team.

BTW, Magikarp went to lvl15 and learn Tackle! It won a battle alone!!!! It's not so useless as it seemed :P

I keep stopping Shinx evolution. I've seen can learn moves early in level. Should I move on to a Luxio?? It would be cool if people could vote what to do in my game. Will be hard more than 1 person look into this thread tho. A pity.

I won Commander Mars! And I've learn a balloon pokémon appears on Fridays. I'll have to wait a whole week! (Or change date on the NDS LOL). Drifloon probably

I got some honey but it seems it did nothing on a yellow tree... maybe I have to wait some hours?

So far I've seen 27 pokémon now. Some from other trainers in battles, like Piplup and Ponyta. I caught 16 wild ones. I want a Psyduck!! Where is it? Does Pokédex > Area > Morning/Day/Night tells me when appears and where?

Going north Route 205 to Eterna forest!! Godspeed! :)

Hmmm I cannot remember if the pokedex shows which pokemon spawn in what areas/ time of day. Im guessing not, but I could be wrong. Glad to hear your having a good time. I would suggest getting your Abra high level its one of my favorites and can be very strong.

Arrived Eternia forest. Cheryl, a girl was waiting for me and now comes and we make double battles. His Chamsey restores all pokémon to full heal after the battles. Also sometimes is hard to catch some pokémon as Chamsey hit'em harder than desired in the worst moment.

Anyway, I managed to get a lot new ones: Wurmple, Silcoon and Beautifly. Also Buneary and a PINK Buneary (is that Shiny or...?). Special for something or just rarer?

I still need to find Dustox, Cascoon, Murkrow and Misdreavus. Most of them are appearing lvl10 to 12 so I got some lvl 11 and 12 when able and just beat the lvl10, that's why I didn't got Cascoon yet.

How that HONEY trick in trees for rare pokémon works? Is there anything special I should to do?

My Magikarp arrived lvl20... now it's a Gyarados that 1HKO everything! Finally!! So I think I'll do the same with Abra, although I'm trying to level up Zubat and it's quite boring. I should try to make him learn some HM or TM moves that hit a bit better that what it have.

Still stopping Shinx evolution... don't know what to do!!?

It's funny when a move "it's not vey effective" but eats half of the HP bar (PP I think is there) or KO the opponent. On the other side is strange when "it's super effective" and does almost nothing... missing something!! LOL

I've read for some EVOLUTIONS need high friendship. I still don't know what this is or how to get it. May I feed my pokémon with BERRYs? I have berries 1 Cheri, 2 Chesto, 3 Pecha and 7 Oran.

What about "talk to him"? I don't even know if that exists and where to check friendship  I'll take a look later.

By now I have TM 09 Bullet seed, 39 Rock tomb, 76 Stealth rock and 88 Pluck + HM6 Rock smash. I need to start thinking on what pokémon place those... or should I keep'em by now?

I can't figure what Mail envelopes are for. Exchange pokémon? If is that, late to the game, for sure. And sill don't know how that WiFi think works. Probably I need to check NDS settings.

I will try to remember to add Abra to team, or I will when Zubat become Golbat :P

WiFi for DS was discontinued. I suppose years ago. So forgetting about everything involving changes, I guess. Also needed WEP security in my router. = to NO security, crazy. But the game still so funny!! :)

Got the Murkrow, lvl11 :)

Some pokémon already have Items when I caught it... Berrys! I don't think I gave it to them. Does having a berry make sense? I can understand  Battle items (right?) or a Quick claw... or not, not sure!?! Wow, what a mess.

Arrived to the end of forest and my partner left. That was unfortunate, I wanted to caught some more pokémon and, need some potions after some battles. Finally went out. Fought some fishermen with, mainly Magikarp unable to attack as opponents. Come on!

I'll have to wait a bit more for the Honey thing. I used more in another tree

And arrived to Eterna city. There's another gym! But probably not ready yet to for a second badge. I don't want to loose! Guessing I'll get a bike in here, as a reward once I beat some Galactics, haha. Also a boy trade me a Buizel I had for a Chatot. New poke!! :D I start to see that Evo things trading holding something. But still don't know how it works.

When you trade a pokémon to an NPC (with the computer) the received is always same level as the one you give?

Got the friendship app to the clock. My pokes are not very happy... still don't know how to improve that. Time...?

I find nothing else to do so... lets check the Gym

Went to Gym and... Monferno 1HKO everything. That was a stroll in the park.

So investigated a bit and went south. They gave me EXP share! But I couldn't go down without a bike... ok, let's punish de Galactics! I introduced Abra into the team!! That EXP share is astonishing! Gives more exp than battling, wow. Abra went level 6 to 15 in no time!! But he doesn't learn new moves   I'll have to evolve into Kadabra. I think I need 1 more level and a Candy... that I don't have. But I'm not sure, I'll see what happens.

I gave CUT move to my Budew... forgot Stun spore. That was by mistake, I liked so much to paralyze :(

Anyway, cut the plant on the Galactic building entrance and went in. After some fast easy battles, arrived to Commander. Only problem was Skum-tank. KOed 3 of my pokes without being able to attack even. OK, Monferno let's go. A 1HKO, again! Wow. that fire power smashes everything :D

I'll go to get a bike now. Back to Eternia to investigate some previous blocked with plants ways, and who knows if finally I can get Misdreavus and some other good level pokémon I missed. Also check some yellow tree... and then I'll try to go south with the bike I guess.

Adventure continues

Oh, I couldn't go back to Eternia forest. A creepy guy in the entrance of town didn't allowed me to leave... so I went east to caught some pokémon. A lot of work to do and done!

But somehow when I already did everything the NDS fall to floor and stopped loosing all progress without being saved so I had to repeat again, a lot of things! Oh :(

I said Abra was in team with EXP share so... now is Kadabra. It's so powerful! I realized got BOOSTED EXP and Zubat doesn't if holding the EXP share... why is that??

Well, went again east to route 211, to chase a bit. I got some new pokémon: Meditite, Chingling, Ponyta and Hoothoot.

When tired, went again down to Bike route... fought a bit and won all trainers in the way. Ending North of Oreburgh city again! Well, now with the bike I will be able to go direct north if I want.

Got some extra caught for Stunky, Kricketune (my Kricketot never evolved and are both in the computer) and Bronzor  Went through new ways and caves that had plants and rocks earlier and also got Psyduck.

Time to check if something will be useful for the team but... I've found Budew to be quite good against the Geodudes and all other ones, are great so that will be hard. I want Bronzor at least though.

I start seeing some pokémon are happy with me. Monferno have the 2 heart! Feeling great.

I'll take some more rounds to see if there are new paths unexplored

That comes from traded pokemon.  All pokemon with different OTs get a boost, but ones from other countries get more.

Hmm... I think that Hidden Power’s firepower is always 60, but the type will depend on the IV stats of the Pokemon. You’ll need to either find the NPC who tells you what your Poke’s HP is, or you’ll have to browse on the internet.

Oh, and try to EV train your Pokemons the right way. If you want your pokes to always go first in PvP battles, K.O. as many Magicarps as you can. You’ll want to search up “EV training” for PvP-level combat.

But if you just want to go through the storymode as casual mode, then no need to fuss over EVs and IVs. Just level them up, and play for fun. :)

I found same info yesterday, but not the part of other countries. Thanks!!!

I'll think about adding the traded Chatot... who knows.

Now probably I will be able to trade only with NPCs as WiFi service was discontinued. It's a 2007 game

Or maybe I still can trade "locally" with another NDS ????

I've seen some Hidden power into competitive movesets for some pokémon but, my Starly never ever hit an opponent with it so...

I'll take a look to that Individual Values and Effort Values. Thanks!

I realized before: speed is important, but I don't get why to KO Magikarps... does this have any effect over the stats increase?

Mainly I'm playing for fun, more in so old game. But I like to do it right anyway. At least know how to do it and then choose if to make the effort I'm a bit perfectionist

I released a lot of Ponyta and other just because the stats were not many good or the ability was not the one I considered the good. I saw they could be stronger and some of them start with unfavourable stats. The Nature seems to mark this and the differences in having +spd/-atk or +spd/-sp atk and so on.

Also, is the food they like relevant in any way?

It seems another video-game but it have so much to learn. It's awesome the in deep that Pokémon can cover -_-

Yep, as funny as it may sound, KOing Magicarps will improve your Pokemon’s speed EV stat. In NPC battles speed dosn’t really matter, because let’s be honest, NPC’s pokemons aren’t EV trained. As soon as you maxed out your best 2 EVs on a Pokemon, it’s level will only have a minimal impact.

Entered Wayward cave. What a mess, haha.

Round and found some trainers and items. Also meet Mira. Was so scared that I had to led her out to the cave. So found a lot of double battles in the way. She's like the Eternia forest girl, restores everything to maximum after every battle. I found it was quite boring that double battles as, if intimidating poke at the beginning had to do it for both, also a lot of Bronzor with status effects and Zubat also. Often sleep and confused and that make battles last so much. Through the way appeared a GREEN Zubat. I wanted it so much!!! Mira's Kadabra 1HKO it even before I could attack. I HATE HER SO MUCH!! Also I had to KO the partner Kadabra every time I wanted to chase a Pokémon because if not, good bye. Was so weird.

I'll take a look for if I can find Gible, I think it's another entrance to the cave. But I'm missing a move (Strengh or something like that) to move rocks so just will take a look and if no possible to go deep in the cave I will take another round outside.

Looking forward to go to computer to see if any of the caught pokémon has good IV or EV. Still have to investigate a lot that things but seems very interesting :)

I found I was gifted with a Premier ball when I got 10  poke ball in shop. Is there any other reward like this with potions or another thing maybe?

I also seen some pokémon evolve with a rare candy... or should! And I have no rare candy and some of them evolved anyway... maybe it's for another games/generations or the general info based on the anime?

Kadabra disobey when fighting a low level opponent. But he shows 2 heart on happiness/friendship so... I think I need new Badges as is Lvl almost 40. Can be that?

Well, crossed Mt Coronet fast, learn a bit about berries, grab some, and then went east to Heart city. I don't get nothing of the cute-shows. In addition doesn't seem to be very interesting or skills based thing.

Left the city without battling at Gym and a hiker gave me an egg. Now I have to walk a lot to see what's inside when open!

Arrived to new open space with lakes and got a Good rod. Still only Magikarps LOL, but I'll try for some Goldeen now and then. Also went to high gras and got Staravia and Bibarel. Don't know yet how to chase Gastly. Some wild opponent's start having good attacks. It's becoming interesting!

Do you know Competitive a bit? To ask or not

I used to play pretty competitively in an unnoficial Pokemon game made on Roblox. Exact same systems as classic Nintendo Pokemon games, so it got DMCAed. I lost my assets on that game, but the experience stuck in my brain, so I pretty much have enough experience to play PvP.

Do you have a stats viewer? It’ll allow you to check your IVs and EVs. EVs can be trained quite easily, but you have to watch out to not get any “trash EVs” (EVs that isn’t optimal, for example Attack EVs on a Gardevoir). IVs, on the other hand, are very hard to optimize and require intensive breeding or Bottle Cap hyper training.

Just be sure to make the best out of your Pokemons, for example max Attack and Speed EVs on a Marshadow, while maxing Sp. Defense and Sp. Attack on a Gardevoir.

Today, by now, I only have a single question: what happens with the attacks the pokémon should learn by levelling up, when they are in 'Pokémon day care' in Solaceon town??

They ask me for any attack it should have asked until the current level when I go to get'em back?

Or are the attacks missed?

So... as you see I arrived to Solaceon town. No advance yet in the competitive area but, I had an egg so now I have a Lvl 1 Happiny that can end being a Chansey. Probably not the best competitive pokémon out there but I don't know if I can train it right since the beginning. Probably in the future. Left it on the computer.

Went to P Day care and left a Machop and a Zubat. Was hard to train Zubat, and Machop hadn't place in team, sadly. I think Machamp is a very strong pokémon with a huge attack and high HP and SpD. But I hadn't one with Adamant nature, which seems to be the optimum. Don't know if I will have to go chase until I get one.

Anyway, by now just playing and entered to Solaceon ruins, Unowns homeplace. Trying to get all 26 available. Not hard, missing 5 or so only.

Then, I guess I'll face north

If I recall correctly the daycare man will remove the top most move. The remaining 3 moves are moved up one slot, and the new move is added to the bottom of the move list. Think of the new move as pushing up from the bottom.

Mmm, great to know. THANK YOU! I'll check and see.

That could be a "problem" with pokémon that I changed the order of the moves, or that they learnt new moves and the removed is not placed in last position. Although the two I have in the Day care had the initial movements only I think, although not sure. Anyway, they will end with new ones in higher levels so a matter of time :)

After getting all 26 Unown, going back to redo things I missed before (because I had no r¡Rock smash, Cut or Strength) and happily I will be able to get Drifloon. I like this pokémon :P

Gives you access to go for the last two "! and ?" and, increases possibilities to get an Hippopotas in the cave you have to cross to go to last room where those 2 appear. BTW I got Hippopotas too! :) And if anything else, I can't remember now, haha

Did a good round. Went south and got my 3rd Gym badge. So easy too. And I got FLY!! Finally I can move faster to previous towns and back, incredibly useful.

Now I'm around the city of 4th gym, getting new pokémon. :D

Congratulations. Are you trying out all your new pokemon, or are you just sticking with your main heavy hitters?

Thanks!

Actually, sticking on my higher levels  I've found almost everything burns (under Monferno's) or Electrocutes (under Shinx's). And the few ones that resist those two, faint easy with Grass Roselia's attacks. She became powerful!

The last one is Gyarados, awkward he doesn't know a single water attack  But still strong and resistant.

At the end got a Bibarel to full carry the HM moves: Rock smash, Cut, Strength and (finally) Surf. Rest Onix. And had to drop Kadabra :( to introduce Zubat that I wanted so much to be in but the decision was clear when I got Fly, so I provided him and I like flight/poison combo (also provide him with Defog later). Should I exchange Gyarados to make Kadabra be back? It will be obedient now, for at least 30 more levels :D

Still no Machop/choke or Psyduck or others that I would like to play. The plan is to play a bit more and start competitive-training some of them, restoring stats or just starting with low levels, or discover in the game all that egg things that I still don't know but that seems to last a lot of time...

BTW I got more Badges. Mine bagde from Canalave city. The most funny gym I've "stay" [censor things] all that elevators, amusing. Then at the entrance the first trainer I had to beat told me something like: "If you don't accept the loose, the path to victory shows itself". Not exact but I don't remember and, wow, made me thought a lot about TCGO concedings!!

Leader had 3 pokémon, and the small in level Bronzor, was the harder (first slept Monferno, then confused him...) the other two went down 1HKO and 2HKO. Now I can use Strengh out of combats.

Previous gym was Heart city, it was a bit harder. Final leader's Mismagius faint a couple of my team (at least). Or maybe was Drifblim, or Gengar, or one each. But I crush her finally. 6 badges total!!

Last "strange" acquisition was Carnivine in the Great marsh. Grass+Dark attacks, big temptation haha. And Zubat has poison now, but I grow fond with Roselia...

And now... I don't know. Maybe I go back to caves to go to places I couldn't before or north, to the snow, although I think I need Rock climb.
