Help, I'm overpaying!

I have no idea what anything is really worth...

I've played the game for four days and either everything is an instant sell or a never-sell:

I wanted to build a fun bee deck earlier and I got frustrated when my first (seemingly fair) trades didn't go through; so I cancelled them and it instantly sold- after realising I'd bought six bees when I can only have four bees I quickly got even more angry and went crazy for some Kakunas.

The problem is when they don't sell, I end up stuck losing valuable coins, and when they do sell, I end up being quite ripped off.

Of course, It's a learning curve... quite like when I realised that running out of cards loses me the game. I had no idea previously and it cost me a few very winnable things. Every guide talks about the prize cards but not the silent killer!

But yeah, I'd love it if someone had some advice for not clutzing out so much, that would be absolutely fantastic. Thanks for your time.

Here's a screenshot of my silliness.

Screenshot turned into wierd url thing. Sorry, but it really was a silly amount of pokemons for 3 kakuna and 6 beedrills

A note: I did look up some trading advice on what things were worth and their margins before trading, and I tried trading for a while based on those advices, but I quickly learned (at least) that the worst packs were worth practically nothing, whereas the meta packs or the bigger draws were the only ones really tradable for something else. (ie. despite the numbers showing 3 Evolution packs = 1 Ultra Prism - the reality is it's really unlikely you will trade equally when upgrading from trash packs to "good" packs)

Another thing that vexed me was just how many people were trying to trade for my Guzma, but when I put him up for something I actually wanted (aka not an aloalan vulpix...) the room went extremely quiet.

And believe me, I wasn't looking for a GX or anything particularly shiny, either.

Anyways, partially venting my frustrations, partially curious to see how you've all dealt with these issues, and hopefully I might get some help in the process.

Good day! Have fun in the game! )

Yeah... card values can be a pain at times. I suggest that you take a look at the prices offered at trading companies (they are here in this board in case you didn't notice) to get a rough comparison between different cards. Also, before posting a public trade, search for similar trades and see what other people are offering, but don't accept them. Compare the prices, look at the ones offered at trading companies. If the prices at public trades are similar or much higher compared to the trading companies', slash 0.5-1 value from the trading companies' prices, THEN post your own public trades. If the public trade's prices are noticeably cheaper, either copy the cheapest, or deduct one or half pack value from the cheapest if you want to see if someone will accept it or not (it likely won't but you can try). The number of hours to open the trade for depends on how often you can check back to refresh the trades.

That said, it is easier to trade using the best pack(s), in this case Guardians Rising, than say Evolutions. Even if you tally them up to seemingly equal values, the GR trade is more likely to be accepted. Pretty much nothing you can really do about this.

You will still get lots of failed trades this way. And it will take some time and quite a lot of tokens. But hopefully you can get the cards you need without feeling ripped off. Or...if all else fails, try consulting us here at the forums?

And....urls not linked to pokemon.com are not allowed here for various reasons. So.... we can't take a look at the screenshot you posted. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the help! :)

Yeah, but often the cards I want aren't really being traded as far as I've seen. I did try looking for them and people weren't really interested.

The most actively traded cards seem to be GX and EX, and neither really interests me that much...

Thanks once again :^)

Depends on the rare. I bet you can get a lowly Beedrill for just an Evolutions, or maybe even an uncommon chest or a useless rare for example.

Don't worry too much about making early trade slip-ups, everyone has done that at some point during their time. What I would suggest is to post your trade requests on the forums trade section, and see if someone has it. Lower-tier packs are still packs, so you can just trade them directly for the cards that you want. I usually use a margin of +0.5 to +1.0 value for cards that I want, but if you want to make things extra speedy, use something like a +2.0 margin.

Oh, and last thing, you'll want to vary your margins according to the card's rarity. Common, Uncommon and Rare cards usually require no margins at all, while that Super Rare and Promos might need a small bonus on the value for the trade to go through. I'll recommend you to trade Pikachu avatar boxes (they're tradeable) for cards that are Rare or lower, as a lot of players are happy to give something they don't use for a box that they can open.

I do this kind of trades often... and sometimes getting not so useless rares I have to say.

Most commonly with the trainers. A trainer for another or a stadium for a stadium or an item for another item. Works quite well most of the times.

On the other side, you probably need to add some well known cards in some trades to your trade be seen. I mean, if you offer an Ampharos for a Beedrill the trade will be seen by so low people because, those names don't use to be introduced in the search box. On the other side if you try to trade with a Lucario or a Zoroark (even not being the GX), the trade will appear for a huge amount of people as a lot will be looking for Zoroark GX or Lucario GX but doesn't specify so much every time so they introduce 'Zoroark', or even "roark" only in the search box, and yours would appear in this case. Or even easier: an Ampharos+Choice band for a Beedrill+whatever item. Choice band, or Hammers, or Fury belt, Aqua patch... all those highly useful items or some RA trainers will help your trade appear to eyes of tons of people.

You can get this random items in a lot of trades for just one pack in bulk trades some people offer, and then use all that trainers and items to help the trades you're interested to be widely seen.
