A rather consistent seismitoad/seviper decklist

Item lock has been one of my favourite strategies in expanded. The ability to stop your opponent from playing item cards is rather OP, especially in a format where items are heavily used in most top tier decks (zoroark variants, night march, gallade/aerodactyl/gyarados, etc.). However, item lock decks all have a huge weakness: the pace of most decks are rather slow and the damage output is relatively low. Instead of the OHKOing your opponent, you slowly chip away your opponents resources and HP while preventing your opponent from taking prize cards via energy denial or simply messing with the prize trade (e.g acerolas, super scoop ups). Out of all item lock decks including trevenant, sesimitoad, and noivern, seismitoad/seviper has been my favourite because it has significantly higher damage outputs with the combination of sevipers/lasers/virbank, allows a first turn lock, and is more consistent as all pokemon are basics. Below is a decklist that I have play tested and believe it may be the most consistent one:

The brief reasons for a few card choices are listed below:

4 Seismitoad, 4 Virbank, 4 lasers, 4 sevipers

Just for the sake of consistency. Being able to draw into these as soon as possible puts huge pressure on your opponent. 4 Virbanks allow you to win the stadium war and 4 sevipers maximise damage.

3 poison barb, 2 choice bands

With the combination of super scoop ups and acerolas, you may achieve a more flexible use of tool cards based on your opponents deck and plays.

Cyrus

Limits your opponents bench under item lock greatly suppresses your opponents ability to set up and slows them down even further. This card has won me countless games.

Karen

Of course, night march has no chance against this deck already but why not make night march players even more desperate :)

1 energy lotto, 1 special charge

You might want to conserve your resources and the draw power of this deck is not as powerful as other decks that only play 4 DCEs, 1 energy lotto increases the chance of drawing into one. In addition, in the mid or late game, it might be harder to draw into energies as some are discarded. I special charge not only recycles energy but at the same time decreases the chances of missing an energy attachment.

1 Nest ball

Can be used for sevipers or toads

So for anyone who also favours item lock, feel free to try it out :) . Your opponent might suffer though, to bad he.she can't insult you anymore :D .

Item lock is for noobs who do not know how to play the game It should really be banned. Can't beleve the game allows it.

Here's what you said:

and here's what I heard:

I'm in a bad mood.

Please don't take your frustration out on us. :)  Item lock is certainly annoying, but it's a valid and very powerful strategy, that has won many championships.
