Please don't can the chat!

Surely there is a better way...  If Pokémon cannot remain open for communication; if Pokémon, one of the most child-friendly games in existence, must quiet members because of harassments; if Pokémon cannot remain a pillar of what video games should be, both in spirit and in fanbase, then what hope is there for the rest of the world?  There must be a better way.

1000% AGREED.

I truly feel canning the chat will remove ALL humanity from the game.  I truly enjoy communicating with my opponents, not a day goes by where I don't have a conversation during the game.

Canning the chat is a horrible idea! Why turn off the free communication with players?

If some players are being harassed by others, then that's what mute button is for!

How do you expect for us to add players in our friends' list, when we will never have the chance to chat with them during a battle?!

Can some moderator forward this to the developers? This is really serious and i doubt half of the players know about it, because let's face it, you never advertise your forums and half of the players aren't aware of many things happening around here.

I totally agree with the mute idea. Maybe just an option to mute the chat completely. (not only every player seperate when the game starts). So everyone is muted before he gets the chance to get salty.

I, for myself didnt see anyone raging or insulting me. Sometimes i have nice chats with people.

And i mean...of course there are always people who dont behave. Welcome to the Internet. Or rather welcome to the world/real life?

I dont really think the internet+ competitive games were made for children who are too young to deal with other people.

So i dont really get why everyone who is not a toddler has to lose their good time for those few who run to mama, crying cause they read something, they would refer to as a "bad word".

taunting a person always makes for a good argument. Make the argument being about your opponents being too young to appreciate the game. Because of course trolls never argue with anyone above the age of five.

Yes the currently available canned chat is bad, but you also have to admit that the monitoring of what was said is way subpar. I mean you could probably coordinate terror attacks on this thing without getting picked up. Sheesh.

But honestly i think the amount of harm the canned chat is doing to the game is being highly exaggerated (because for every fun opponent i find there are at least two crude-speaking trolls out there). In fact yesterday someone just commented on going to bed with my mom.

I think i held my cool fairly well but what happens if the next person can't. Does it degrade into a petty fight over what started out as a theme deck token tournament?

Of course i reported him. Did he get muted? maybe. Maybe not. My bet's on no. But the thing is he will say those things to another player at another time. And until we can make sure that doesn't happen, i'll be here supporting canned chat.

Question... You do know that they have say nothing about removing the chat?

In the pre-review. They have only addet an option to fast send some smileys and message...

The chat shut still be there :)

They have simple chance the interface. Example on message in the old interface:
- I owe you one"

- I am lokking for Pokemon Legend

- I am lokking for Pokemon PRIME

- I am lokking for rare holo
- Good luck, have fun

That was they are updating... It is a Legacy from The browser edition of this game... When this was build on Adobe Flash player...

Never mind... I think it is time to stop playing Pokemon :)

This quote from the announcement kind of confirms that they are removing open match chat.

" Open chat is still available in Friend Battles and in the various chat lobbies available outside of matches. "

Please, mods?  Removing chat in the VS matches and tournaments is extremely detrimental to the play of this game.  Again, the last bit of humanity will be removed from this game.

I truly wonder if this is what the endgame is?

I thought that the aim of PTCGO is to create an online environment which simulates the real life game.  The rules are the same, the game is the same, everything is just simulated and faster.  So I must ask, don't the tournaments allow conversation between the opponents?  So how does removing chat create an atmosphere which is more like the real life game?  This is a huge mistake, and one that if implemented will harm the game.

Please do not can the chat.

Agreed. Most of my fair trades have been set into motion during chat with other random players during a regular VS match (or sometimes tournaments) - The 'Mute Player' option is 100% sufficient on it's own, what's the point of even having it if the chat is canned?

I can understand the motivation to remove the chat. But for the kids, it would be easier to have parents simply set them to a "canned chat only" or "no chat" option. For anyone else who finds chat more annoying than helpful (people who are getting sworn at, ******** harrassed, etc), the same option could exist. In fact, turn chat off, but then have an option to turn it back on for other people who have have "opted in" to chat?

The worst chats I've ever seen were people being impatient typing "go!" but I can imagine that there's worse out there... most of my chats have been a great addition to the game.

This option already exists.

But the parent account must 'opt-out' for the child - as far as I know the default is set as 'opt-in', and unfortunately more parents would rather complain to a corporation rather than learn the options.

I'm pretty sure the social preferences for child accounts default to "closed".

Just my opinion on the matter, having not read any other posts other than OP and the official announcement:

I do not like the idea of canned chat. It will no doubt be completely useless, similar to how the open chat rooms have. It really does suck. But oh well, it is what it is. I do wish it would stay though.

I must mention though, that this is coming as a direct result of the communities wants. Many many many threads in the last month have mentioned players being harassed in the in-match chat room. When many people tell the support team of an issue, they come up with a permanent fix (see public trade spams and scams, Shiftry, Manaphy reward farming, etc). Almost all of the times this has happened, the community has not liked it. But it fixes the issue the community was frustrated with.

I thought long and hard about better suggestions for how to fix the harassment issue, and I really can't think of any. So although the majority of the community will hate it, it is what we asked for, and it will no doubt fix the problem.

So, overall, I have no issue with it. They did (well, will do) what needed to be done. I, just like everyone else, wish there was a different way.

They are.  I had to turn on the chat in my son's account.

Simply put, if the entities responsible in PTCGO would aptly punish those who are reported, and I mean ZERO TOLERANCE, we would have the bulk of offenders muted for a good period of time for first offense, then a longer mute and short ban from all PTCGO affairs for second offense, and the hammer put down in a permaban for 3rd offense.  Why would this not work, instead of canning the chat completely?  Again, PTCGO will not communicate with us honestly as to why they are doing what they do.

I will state again, this liberal approach with "just deal with it" attitude where they implement rules at will, which is fine, but why can't we have an explanation as to why?  After all, it seems much of the issues between we the players and the mods/devs are the lack of any transparency.

It's been a long time since I'd set up the account - maybe they've changed it. Either way, removing chat for everyone is even more pointless if it must be 'opted-in' for children.

Personally, I think they are just tired of getting complaints about rude players.  At the same time, they do not have the money/resources to properly mod the game as you suggested.

So they choose to implement the simplest and cheapest solution to the problem.

I had someone say so much mean stuff to me when he was a turn away from the game ending and him losing. I will say it is one in 1,000 people that say terrible things but I don't need people like that, even at that ratio.

Is this public knowledge?  I am not sure of the employee structure of the PTCGO, or the available resources.  The logical conclusion can be drawn as you have said, but I wonder if it is actually true.  I suspect that if the PTCGO ran as well as it could, it would take from the physical game, where the real money is made, and they would then lose money.  I am sure that the game client draws more money to the card game franchise.

So is that one person in 1000 worth removing chat for the other 999?  I certainly agree that the out of match chat can be completely removed, that is the most toxic part of the game, not to mention the most useless.

well actually if you'd checked the forums daily you'd know exactly what he meant. There have been an overflow of these "badmouthing" reports on pvp forums and even sometimes game feedback (almost always directly calling out the player- meaning that mods were immediately alerted)

and please make that 2 in 1000, i shared my experience above. Either way, it doesn't seem like the "for chat" committee has an overload of people showing up here. Nobody wants canned chat, but what we need is a good viable alternative (not a reasonable one- a viable one for ptcgo)
