What's the story of how you started liking pokemon?

This thread is a place where you can tell other people your story of starting your journey into the world of pokemon!

I'll start of with my story:

One day a 4 year old boy was scrolling through the tv listings on the tv and he saw a program named 'pokemon' and he thought to him self 'pokemon? meh! it's problaly a boring, stupid TV show'

2 years later he came back from school with a letter that had the pokemon Grovyle on it and it said that you had to find some letters on the internet and you'd win something (Right now I forgot there was a program called pokemon on TVcry_smile.png)

I asked my Dad if I could try to find the letters on the website but he said later and it never happenedwhatchutalkingabout_smile.png. But when my dad said 'later' I remembered that I saw pokemon 2 years ago on TV so I checked if it was on and it wasssss...

...ON!!!!!

And then later our nabour gave my bro a pokemon leaf green game and we played it and liked it so we started buying the games and I also saw a pokemon deck (The Ho-oh and Typlosion one) and got that deck.

And this is my Poke'story!!!

So now that you've read my story post your own!!!

I saw it occasionally when I was little, but was never allowed to watch it (esp. since my mom was babysitting even younger kids)...... Then, I'd hear references to it at school all the time, but never got interested until the summer before 8th(?) grade..... one of my friends loaned me her tapes of the show and I stayed up watching them all. I got hooked, then a coupla kids at school gave me their cards since they "outgrew" them...... and now I'm a total pokemaniac!

Once there was this kid who lived in a far off Town that moved to the city, upon arriving he discovered the popular culture of video games. The boy was denied video games because of old ladies gossiping about the evils it gave.

When the boy finally turned old enough, and was allowed to own a console and a game, he marched to the Video Store picked the GameBoy Color. Now he had to choose a game-

The Boy was from Puerto Rico, so he knew very little english, and finding a translated game was difficult enough to find. Then he remembered a peculiar show that was translated in Spanish, that was Pokemon. Upon deciding on a Pokemon Game, he ventured through stores and malls to find one, and when he did there it was-

Pokemon Red Version.

The boy vowed to catch all 150 Pokemon, only to fail....he never did catch 'em all.

Time passed and the Gameboy's battery began to worsen until it never functioned again. Now the Game Cartridged is attached to a special necklace that the boy made with other old video games. He promised himself if he ever had the oppurtunity to play the game again, that he wouldn't. Inside the data and mechanics lies the boy's infancy memories, memories that will forever stay untouched.

Now I vowed to Catch 'em All, by all means except cheating.

The hype turned me off at first. Everywhere I turned there was this terribly cute yellow thing staring me in the face. Pokemon was just way too trendy for me. Then one day I was rummaging through a box of used game in the store I had saved up some money and I was determined to buy a new game. As I searched I found few that were in my price range. Among those I could afford though was a red cartrige with a dragon on it. I thought, okay I'll give it a chance. When I got home and popped it into my sister's Super Nintendo with the Game Boy Player a whole new world opened to me. I sat for a while and watched the opening movie, then as it cycled through various pokemon. The art impressed me. I chose a charmander, named it Char, and played for a few hours. To my surprise it was a pretty good turn based system. Then the next day I turned it on and realized to my horror that it didn't save. It was broken. So I started over again chose a squirtle this time. I count him as my true first pokemon. This time I planned on just leaving the system on. I played for every available moment, which was hard with school. My insomnia helped though. Two weeks later my sister's system was overheating like crazy, melting the countertop below it. She told me that I had one more night and it was going off. Without saving I only had one chance at the legendary birds, the only one I caught was Articuno. I got as far as defeating Gary right before the league when I had to end it.

Needles to say, I was hooked. Once in a while I would start over again, but there was a little wistfulness that I couldn't ever finish. It wasn't until a black Friday morning that I was able to jump over thousands of screaming mothers, pretending to be French (people tend to argue less with forginers) that I got my copy of Yellow. I haven't stopped playing since.

me: i remember i went on vacation to winsconsin dells and saw the episode where ash's cyndaquil battles a skarmory. ive been wanting to give it a try here and there but never had a chance. now that i did i was hooked. i watched more episodes that i rented from blockbuster and i even started getting cards in 1st grade. those first cards were ekans and bellsprout. my best friend always played emerald version and i used to go to his house to play for hours on it lol. in 3rd grade i turned 10 and got my gameboy advance s.p finally. my first game was pokemon emerald and shortly after fire red. (funny, aren't you suppose to be 10 to qualify to be a pokemon trainer?lol) anyways whats embarrassing was that i almost failed 3rd grade because i was waaaaay to obssesed with pokemon. i always referenced it in my homework and school assignments. anyways from there i just got more and more into pokemon to this day. pokemon has been and always will be one of the best things i will stick with.

Well, my brother when he was was in third grade was obsessed with pokemon..... I was a little 3 year old and of course he never let me play on his gameboy pocket with the original red version on it. I did get a few glimpses though (I remember wasting wasting his master ball to catch a voltorb <img src="http://www.pokemontcg.com/javascripts/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/png/teeth_smile.png" alt="" />) and I really liked it. Then the gameboy broke and I was back where I started.

Then once I was in third grade, everyone was crazy abou pokemon again. I would bring my brothers old pokemon cards to school and trade with everybody (my most valuable card was the golden togepi). I got a gameboy color from a friend, and played my brothers old red game. I also had a dual cartridge, with silver and gold on it. I think it might have been in japanese. It never saved, so I stuck with red. Then the gameboy color broke and and I moved, and had to sell all my cards. Again I was back where I started.

A couple of years ago, I went on a trip to a foreign country, and on the little tv screen on the back of the person in front of my chair was loaded pokemon silver. I picked totodile and got to like the second gym, playing non stop for like 12 hours. Then in the foreign country they played reruns of the Kanto Region, and I got hooked.

When I got back home, I stopped pokemon for no apparent reason, but then very recently, I started watching the anime, found this sight, and here I am...

Pokemon creeped me out when I was little. No lie. I was four years old and just moved from Germany. I didn't know what to expect from America at all. In daycare, the caretakers would occasionally put Pokemon for all the kids to watch on T.V.. EVERYONE crowded around except me who was on the other side of the room sometimes glancing over to see what was going on. I still remember the first episode I watched. It was the Gloom episode. To this day, Gloom is the Pokemon the creeps me out the most. One day I went over to my friend's house and he was playing Pokemon Gold Version which had just come out. He was surprised that I showed no interest at all in the game, so he lent it to me hoping I'd play it and get as hooked as he did. The first few days I had it, I just left it sitting in my room since I was way too preoccupied playing on the Sega Dreamcast I got for my birthday. I got grounded one day so no Dreamcast, so I snuck the GameBoy. Mario and Donkey Kong Country got boring real quick and only Pokemon was left, so I popped the cartridge in. I couldn't put it down. To this day Pokemon has stuck with me. The friend that first gave me Pokemon Gold to try out has lost interest in Pokemon over time. He's off to college soon so as a gift I gave him my FireRed version since he hasn't played the originals. The nostaligia of Pokemon's golden days came rushing back to him so I guess we're even now. And that is my story. A long one, but fun for me to share. (If Gloom was the first Pokemon you saw, wouldn't you be freaked out too? I thought it had rabies or something and still do.)

whatchutalkingabout_smile.png You scare me Gloom. Stop foaming.

Back in 1999, I was fortunate enough to have caught the pilot episode of Pokemon and so were most of classmates. It only took a couple of days after that for Pokemon to become the most popular and loved topic at school.

Fast forward a few months later. I walked past a video game store which featured Pokemon Red and Blue in its frontal display window. After a bit of begging, my aunt bought me a copy of Pokemon Blue, which I started playing right afterwards with my Game Boy. I loved it.

Umms...... Topic?

Great idea Harman, a pokestory thread!

Mew's story:

When I was 6 my family went to a meeting in green lakes. I was excited cause I had fun eating there and playing with my friend, who, brought his gameboy color and pokemon Gold. Me and him would take turns playing until I finally asked him what the game was. "It's Pokemon." he said with a gleam in his eye. "Well I like Steelix, I need to get this game." Which, coincidentally, was the first video game I ever played. The first pokemon I played with was a steelix with iron tail. I thought it was the most beast pokemon ever. That is, until I went home.

Two months after the meeting, the only thing I could think about was Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon. Then another friend came over. Of course, I talked to him only about Pokemon. He said he was selling his gold version for 6 dollars. It was the first thing I saved for.

being 6, I didn't train a team. I had level 16s at the elite four with my starter, Feraligatr, level 52. Ironicly, I OHKO'd Ho-oh with surf thinking it only another great experience getter. Blacked out many times until Feraligatr was level 76 and I barely beat lance through many surfs and hyper potions (Didn't know about full restores :P) Eventually, my Feraligatr could beat the entire elite 4 with only using 2 hyper potions (For lance's two thunder dragonites) He could OHKO the entire first E4 person with cut which he had known the entire game. His moveset was, and stayed: Surf, Hydro Pump, Cut, Earthquake. Then I got stuck in Kanto at the road block, not knowing what to do.

The only legend I actually caught in the game was Entei who I used the master ball on.

And here I am, 8 years later and a fan for life. Oh yeah, I learned about Mew when I played emerald at age 10.

Steelix was one of my favorites too. I have some drawings I made from of Pokemon in 3rd or 4th grade and remember Steelix being in one of them. They look horrible but it reminds me of how I was obsessed with Pokemon in elementary school. I think I still have them too...

I also had a habit of soloing the whole game with one Pokemon and they got to be level 100 by the time I beat the game, Typhlosion being the first one. I trained a Tyranitar and Dragonite to level 65 then thinking I was the best trainer ever. I still remember people sticking Hyper Beam on every Pokemon they could. The first strategy in Pokemon: Everyone, use Hyper Beam! I win! :P

One day, a young baby boy was born. After almost dying from not being able to breath, the boy saw his older brothers watching a funny little show on television. The boy soon became friends with another family, who watched the show just as much. The boy grew, and was healed from the accident, then remembered his love for the funny little show, and continues to enjoy it today.

(psst, thats me)

It started when I was about 4 in Preschool, I saw the show for the frist time. I loved it. Though not until 2008 when I got a Nintendo DS was I able to get my first game... Pokemon Diamond. I had lice, and was in 3rd grade at the moment. I played for hours, then got my hair dyed to get rid of lice on that same day, and started to love a certain few Pokemon... Starly, Shinx, and Dialga. Then in early '09, I got Platinum while in Arkansas. I played in my loft for a couple of hours, and got to Gardenia. Her Pokemon were no match for my Grotle and Staravia. In 2010, I got Soulsilver. I was lucky, and got a FEMALE Cyndaquil. I played for hours, AGAIN, and began to get better at strategies, and drawing Pokemon. During that time, I made a dumb move... restarting Platinum and losing a Palkia I borrowed from a friend. I didn't decide to keep that file either, so in January 2011 I finally was happy. I trained my Piplup, until I found my old friend... Shinx. Now My Luxray is my lead. Oh- I also have Black. Wotter, my Oshawott grew quickly- unti the 4th gym. Elesa was a pain- nearly making me restart my file. Then, I beat her. Things went smoothly after that. My favorite Pokemon now are Luxray, Scolipede, Samurott, and Staraptor.

Now people call me a Poke-freak, a Nerd, or even Retarded for liking Pokemon, or just pick on me, or bully me. I'm really goofy and random, and people hate me for no reason. But my friend Kayliani has helped me ignore them. In Science- I'm in 6th grade now- we draw in our Drawing Notebooks in our spare time, the subject usually Pokemon. That's my story- I hope you like it :)

It's also true.

I was in 8th grade when the show started but I used to catch it whenever I would see it on. I didn't really know what it was about until my friend showed me it on his gameboy. Ever since then I've beaten every single one that came out. I'm 25 now but I still love the games and proud of it! I never got too much into the show and never got into the cards, but I love the games. I've been playing this card game online and I love it, just wish I can get more cards online, don't really want to buy the physical cards. Anyway, the games are great and anyone who thinks they're only for kids obviously never played them!
