Mine was Overgrowth. I remember how eager I was to start playing the game. It was all the rage back

then so there were a lot of people to play it with. Good times.

I don't know. I think it was at the start of the period time when I was younger where, at the point that I had saved up enough money to buy a theme deck, I'd have my mom take me up to Target and buy me a theme deck! I have about twenty boxes from back then, because I had enjoyed looking at them so much that I never would throw those away! However, I didn't really get that they were to help you start up building a deck for the game so I would dismantle them after I'd looked at the cards and tuck them away in a binder with my other cards. I never understood why they had duplicates of some Pokemon in the theme decks! tounge_smile.png

My first theme deck, if this counts, was the 2 played starter set. I never got many other theme decks. I'm sure I got more but the only one I can really remember much of was the 2 player starter set and Echo. I still have some of echo actually.

well the first deck I ever got was the base set starter deck witch had 2 decks in it to teach the game. The first true pre constructed deck I got was overgrowth.

Yes alot of people didn't really bother with the game.

They just wanted to collect the cards and trade. If something had more than 90HP it was a god and worth your shoes.

Does anyone remember that 2 player starter set that came with 2 thirty card decks, all the normal theme deck things, packaged with a VHS that showed you how to play? I loved that thing.

Yep, although I never watched the tape, the game was simple I didnt need to watch it.

Yeah the game was simple but the video was funny for a kid my age. They got two parents to play and I thought it was hilarious because they acted like my parents did when I tried to teach them.

LOL! Yeah, when a parent hears their kid saying:

"No, it does sixty damage, because Bulbasaur is a Grass-type, which is weak to Charmander!"

it comes out as,

"kljdkljadskljdklfjkldjkljaskldjflkasdjflkcjsdaklfjkljlkfjakljdsifjeiwjdsficjriofjeidsjxkfdlajdklj4ejdjkjfioewj!"

All kidding aside, Nightfall.

My rule is this. I will buy one of the 2 theme decks per set. The one I will buy will always be sitting on the right side of the display case. In the case of 3 theme decks, I buy the starter that I chose in the video games, or if it was great encounters, I would have bought the Palkia one, because I have Pokemon pearl. But if it has only 2 theme decks per set, it is always the one on the right, no matter if there was a set where Zekrom was on the left side, and Reshiram was on the right, and I have Pokemon White, I will still get the one with Reshiram. That is an example by the way.

So far, I have: Growth Clash, because I started with Chikorita on Soul Silver; Steel Sentinel, Nightfall, Royal Guard, and Recon, because they are on the right side of the display case; and Red Frenzy, because I am looking to start with Tepig when I get white. As for the games, I always get the second version. Blue, Silver, Saphire, Leaf Green, Pearl, Soul Silver, and White. Just like the Theme decks, I always buy the one on the right side, because it is the "second" one.

My first theme deck was kinda late in the game lol. When the fad was dying. It was the Devastation them Deck. I always hated how the majority of kids treated them like base ball cards. When the real purpose was to fight them. Well you can collect them, but i wanted to battle. By the time i really was interested in learning every one stopped caring. Which in away worked out for me cause about 10 of my friends gave me( at no charge) all their cards. So i had about 3 Binders worth of cards. I eventually found 4 other friends (2 years later) who still had their cards and ended up teaching them how to play. We had a good 2 years of battling before it died out for us.

I think the TCG is starting to become more popular again. My local games store started doing Pokemon leagues just last year and the number of players have been increasing.

I know nobody will ever believe this, but in all my years of collecting Pokemon cards, I never once bought a theme deck. I only ever bought ten card booster packs and traded.

Never really bought pre-constucted. Always bought packs back then. Easier to save money for them. lol So technically my first pre-contructed was Nightfall from Undaunted. haha.

no, boosters cost more. in a deck you get 60 cards and it costs £10 and a booster costs £2.50 and has 10 cards 2.50 times by six (to equal 60 cards) are £15

But you would get 6 rares and 6 rev holos. One of those has a good chance of being a Prime since

the rate of a Pokemon Prime is around 1 out of 5 boosters.

If you are talking about the old boosters, you still get 6 rares out of 6 booster packs included in

the 11 cards per booster.

New theme decks: 5 rares

Old theme decks: 2 rares
