Gems? Someone fill me in here!

Okay, so everyone knows how to earn trainer tokens. But so far, I've gotten no hints on how to get gems. I hear that eventually you'll need gems to enter tournaments after the free entry period is over. I want to be able to continue to enter tournaments and the like, so it would be great if someone filled me in on how to get gems, since I might need them sooner or later for something, if not for the tournaments.

At the moment, pokemon has not revealed what gems are for or how you get them. There have been rumours though, that they will be the currency to get boosters and decks

I am betting Gems is where you buy a Prepaid Cards (Activate at Cashier) with real money and put it in pokemonTCGO.
