Hey Mike! I'm not sure what your exact role is, and whether you will be able to help with this, but as I'd posted this as a potential feedback suggestion/ improvement a while back and I don't think it got any reply (from a member of the TCPi team)- I thought I'd re-post this here as it'd be very useful for me and for many others too I think! :)

This his has been a problem really ever since we switched from the old to the new Forum browser, but I decided that in case it becomes a bigger issue for me in the future and others too, it would be good to post it now so that the developers are aware of this.

I understand the necessity for having a capped size of an individual post in terms of text length, in order to prevent incredibly long posts of spam etc.

However, if you've ever tried to create large tables (for example for a tournament leaderboard/ record or for a value guide etc.) I've noticed there is a limit on the total number of table rows you can have per post (not even in separate tables can you get around this) which is significantly lower than the maximum word count.

This makes it very difficult when making tables as after you get to a certain length the table code glitches out and doesn't post properly (it still posts something- but it is only the remaining code; which doesn't properly form form a table after that 'limit' has been reached).

It's a bit of an issue for players wanting to create large/medium sized tables on the forums, particularly when editing one on the first post; since after a time it may run out of room and you'd have to make a new thread.

As you are involved in feedback and the community, I assume forum matters come under this, and I was wondering if there is any possibility of this being addressed in the future! :)

EDIT: And I agree with Helshi, I'd also like to see a Generations-pack tournament week-end and I think a lot of other players would too! :)

Do you feel that there are too many cards that exist that will see no play what so ever because they are bad? Maybe they have too little HP, or their attack cost to damage ratio is just really poor?

I find that I am only really excited by a few cards from each set. Too often I see a Pokemon listed and get excited about it, then when I read the card I get disappointed because it is too bad to even play. For example I was really excited when I first looked at the BREAKpoint card list and saw that Arcanine was going to be in the set. Then once I saw that it had mediocre attacks with bad energy costs and low HP I just felt disappointed and couldn't help but wonder why the design team didn't put more into this card to make it playable and exciting to the players.

Card design is something that really interests me, It is something I would like to do with my life in all honestly. I am hoping to learn more and get behind the scene thoughts on how cards come to be.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to the community, it is always nice to be able to have interactions with the developers!

I don't know of I'm allowed to answer this, so remove my post of I'm not...

The TCGO design team has no say in the creation of the cards, so take it up with Pokemon Card Laboratory in Japan, as they are the team that decides what the cards should do.

I agree that a lot of the cards are fairly underpowered, but my opinion is that having some crappy filler cards is better, because of all the cards were playable, the values of the cards would go through the roof.

Hi Mike,

I was wondering if it would be possible to have sealed pokemon events like drafting? It would be a fresh new addition to add to the tournaments section and would be a great way to use packs besides opening them and trading.

Thanks,

Jessica

Thanks for the posts!  Answers below :)

Do we have a chance to see Generations packs in Game shop for tokens? Or Generations tournaments weekend (like with Next Destinies last spring)?

Generations packs will not be available for sale in the Game shop as they are a special release and are only available for sale through special physical products like the Mythical Mew Collection.  With that said though, now that the Generations packs are in the system it would not be unusual for us to use them for future special events :)

seminc responded with the correct answer about how the cards are designed.

As far as how cards are used in decks, I think that comes down to individual choice.  Sure, its easy to grab cards with the biggest numbers but I've always enjoyed seeing people react to a deck using different cards combined with a clever theme or idea.  Which is why I can say that MY favorite Pokémon card is Weedle and as soon as I get enough cards you will all have to fear my poison little bug deck!  Or maybe just laugh at it, either works :)

Well the main use for larger tables would be in trading threads, if players need to list a lot of cards in the same post (or series of posts) of what they have for trade/a compendium of lots of cards/information and their values etc. (Violet City, Top Cut etc. are all examples of these kind of forum threads). :)

Also for players running tournaments/challenges with a large leader-board, it might be necessary to have a larger table in order to fit lots of players in at once-with match records etc.

One example of this would be my old 'Trading Card League' thread, where you would have the list of players who have 'challenged the gyms' and which 'gym leader/ elite 4' they have beaten etc. (to track their progress) as well as cool-down (which had to be removed when I used to run this thread- because of the table spacing issues).

I second this, and add an idea of my own...

Have it cost tournament tickets, and have prize support as well as giving packs for the draft (maybe an 8 ticket tournament).

Welcome Aboard! While I have nothing of concern at the moment, I know something that is important to me and a great deal of online communities I take part in is the continual awareness of and patching of bugs in both the client and in the cards. I love the game, so off the client and cards are working well, I'm happy.

Welcome Mike, hopefully you can help us better understand the decision making involved behind the scenes and help to bridge the gap between player and developer.

I do have a couple of questions rolling around in my mind that I would like to ask you about.

1. The devs did speed up some of the animations however their previous comments seemed to indicate that they were going to be speeding up others and that the first few were released fast to respond appropriately to our concerns. but now I haven't heard anything from the devs about speeding up more animations. There are many more animations that could be refined to enhance gameplay, specifically the supporter animations that shuffle the entire hand into the deck and draw a new one... currently each card goes into the deck one at a time, and get's pulled out one at a time..... and for a supporter like N this is done sequentially so each player has to wait for the other's animation to be finished.... certainly something like this could be sped up?

2. The trade history can become very long and take ages to load for older accounts that have thousands of completed trades, is there no way to accomplish 3 things:
a. add a search bar so we can search out specific trades that we have a vague memory of but would like to see what we paid or bought for in the past?
b. find a way to export the trade history into the clipboard so we can save it offline like we can with deck builds?
c. if B is possible then lastly, to wipe the trade history so we don't have to wait ages for a long trade history to load?

3. the last couple of updates the discard pile was changed. and Sam seemed to hint that there were impending changes to make it more user friendly when searching out cards. Specifically to make the discard pile once again in reverse order so the most recently discarded cards appear first in the list (would make certain mechanics much easier for the player like retrieving exeggecute with propagation or ho-oh ex that both work from the discard pile). Sam indicated that this would occur with the "next update" which was the release of breakpoint but i honestly can't see any difference in the discard pile from before BP to after BP's release. When can we reasonably expect to see some of the changes to the discard pile that warranted changing it in the first place?
Lastly having to click on arrows to see the next batch of discarded cards leads to a lot of unnecessary clicking, why can't the discard pile work off of the mouse scroll wheel like so many other parts of the game? this way i don't have to constantly click through to see the end of the discard pile, a very practical and logical reason wouldn't you say?

4. has there been any discussion about changing the token cost for posting trades in public trading? I understand that increasing the token cost was done for a good reason, and I don't disagree that it should cost more than what it was in the past. However I feel that 1 token per hour in pub is far too high, especially when we are only given 3 options to post trades with. This change has literally decimated the trading of commons and uncommons, and as more sets get released and more cards become older, trading to complete your collections gets significantly harder if you're missing some old cards for your sets. I feel 2 possible solutions could help mitigate this:
a. reduce trade cost to 0.5 tokens per hour of trading, making 8 hour trades cost 4 tokens, 24 cost 12, and 48 cost 24. I think this will still filter out a lot of the scam trades while still allowing for a more diverse amount of trades to be posted.
b. allow us to post trades for as many hours as we want not to exceed 48 hours. this way if we want we can only put up a trade for 3 hours or 12 hours or anything in between and this would allows us to commit our tokens to trading in a more efficient way. This would significantly help those of us with busy schedules where we would like to post something for maybe 12 hours and the option is currently not there.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to our concerns Mike, I do appreciate that the PTCGO team is taking steps to listen to and communicate with the player base, and I appreciate you taking the time to read my wall of text lol.

You mentioned my company before your own <3 <3 <3

And what a great idea, oh my goodness larger tables would inexplicably make Matthew69, My friends at PKTC, and my jobs sooooo much easier.

My Shelmet Point Balance List is getting awfully long and I'm gonna have to start removing names of people with no balances for it to still fit. Larger tables would remove that problem. It would also make it so we can use all of our reserved posts to their fullest, by grouping large quantities of cards in one post better.

Will the generations packs ever Come out? To buy with coins i mean!

As we posted earlier the Pokémon TCG: Generations boosters will not be available in the store in the game but there may be additional opportunities to get them in addition to codes from the physical products.  Don't forget to log-in on Pokémon Day to collect one!

Hi Mike, i made this post quite ago with some feedbak but i never got a word from Mods nor Staff, i'm gonna quote it though don't know if it counts as spam.

Well hello everyone, i would like to introduce myself as a TCGO collector but yet i only have the 41% of cards collected (which is a lot if you consider that i started playing since Primal Clash came) also i want to thank the staff for all of the things that you had made to make the game better and more new player friendly (Ladders, making 10 pack BP avalaible at the shop, Daily Challenges, bringing bak the Daily Bonus) that shows that you listen us so i'm really glad you do that

Nowadays i've seen at the public trades some expensive trade offers for Expanded SR and FA cards and it was heartbreaking and i know that it's normal that after the rotation is very unlikely to have packs from those sets so obviously they become more expensive but i don't think is fair for people that is new to the game or came late to the party, we really don't  have an option to complete our collection at all so i was thinking in how could you give us an option for those like me to play the game for completion of the collection and i want to share with you some of my ideas:

1.- Not what everybody would want and something that may have many issues but give us an option to spend actual money in the game, like micro-transaction, doing an actual shop, where we can find everything that can be found in the game (B&W pack, promos, decks, HGSS packs, promos and decks) also it should have Standard stuff, but i do emphasis on those, also for this to work should have a reasonable price and you see people on other websites selling their codes for one dollar some other for two, i think a standar single pack should cost 1$, B&W 2$ and HGSS 3$ i know in real life a 3 o 4 dollars i think but you are paying for real life cards so i think those prices would be fair, it may work with pay pal like other games, also you could give a booster box box "promo" for like 20 30 dollars

2.- Having a bigger shop one that works with tokens only not with real money but that works essentially as the one i said before, it would have everything that comes to the tcg and the prices would be something like this:

A Next Destinies Booster pack (or any other B&W): 250 - 300  Tokens

A HS Undaunted Booster pack (or any other HGSS) 350 - 400 Tokens

A Tyrantrum Ex Box (Having 4 standar booster packs and a Ex promo) 900 - 950 Tokens

A Keldeo Tin (Having 4 expanded BP and a promo Ex) 1100 -1300 Tokens

3,- Perhaps the easiest one, doing a Monthly promotion at the shop, you know back in the day, when you changed the special promotions at the shop without any advice i  was one of the many people that told you about a weekly promotions, right now we have the 10 card BP, so the weekly promotion would only work well with promo cards like Sableye's Blister, Celebi blister or even boxes and few times you have gave us Expanded promos or lately even a HS Undaunted promo, but the problem with this is that we don't have enough time to save tokens for them just the week it is avalaible, and being realistic the probability of having enough tokens in that week to be able to pull a SR or a FA card is too low, and having a monthly "Promo Booster pack" on the shop would give the neccesary time to earn tokens and having more probabilities for nice pulls from, here is an example:

March B&W Booster pack would be: Plasma Freeze

March HGSS Booster pack would be: HG Triumphant

April B&W Booster pack would be: Boundaries Crossed

April HGSS Booster pack would be: HG Unleashed

So those are my ideas, hope you'll like them and try them, also i would like to let me know your point of view, i know it could affect the economy but having higher values on older sets also makes it more fair, it would drop the ridiculous prices of SR but they will still be at a high price so i don't see a problem, this is just a feedback and would really apreacciate to see them at one point in the game, also i would like to say that being even more newbie friendly will make more casual gamers come to the game and stay, sometimes not having that feeling of completion makes people go cause being realistic people that started playing the game really early have a huge advantage over the rest so this could be helpful.

Finally thanks for reading and thanks the staff for the 10 Booster packs

Hope you take your time to read this and tell me what do you think i know it's not easy to be made but i think it woulbe awesome and worth it

I love the game, so off the client and cards are working well, I'm happy.

Thank you for your help!  We appreciate all of you in the community that help us identify bugs so we can squash them (but not my poor Weedle!).

Do you think that the Old "vivid" sleeves and deckboxes will ever return to shop again?

We reserve the right to do cool things in the game for the community as they fit our schedule.  We appreciate you helping us determine what would be cool :)

Welcome to the family mike :D

Thank you!  Now please pass the potatoes!

Think you could thumb though some of these hot topics and give us and idea of what we are looking at for the future of the Gem Market?

http://forums.pokemontcg.com/topic/38550-gems-need-to-go-or-be-added-to-other-regions/

We have focused on making the Pokémon Online Trading Card Game as a great extension and companion of the physical Pokémon product.  This is why when you purchase physical Pokémon cards you also get a code for the online game.  You don't have to choose where to spend your hard-earned money.  You just get both :)

Gem implementation is one of the many items from the very-long-list-of-things-to-consider-and-explore we have been working on and we don't have any additional news to share at this time.

Please don't hesitate to keep giving us your feedback on this and any other parts of the game you are interested in.  Your feedback helps us where we should focus on the VLLOTTCAE.

Ah nice!

Also, would it be plausible for PTCGO to do more special events (such as special themed tournaments / shop / wheel). Right now, it feels like only one happens every 4ish months which is too long :(
