EMPOLEON DAMAGE MISCALCULATION BUG

Aquilux

Recommended Posts

I have encountered damage miscalculations with Empoleon twice now, resulting in frustrating, game-changing damage errors. I only have a game log of the second example below, however I did not include it as then my post is too long. I will be submitting a ticket shortly after this post but wanted to make the knowledge available to the public. Feel free to help here or provide feedback if you can.

1.    My Opponent was supposed to knock out my Hawlucha (#63 Furious Fists) (70HP) with Seismitoad EX's (#106 Furious Fists) Quaking Punch with a Muscle Band and two Empoleon (#38 Breakthrough) with the Dignified Fighter ability. 30 (Quaking Punch) + 20 (Muscle Band) + 40 (Two Empoleion) = 90 But the total damage dealt to my Hawlucha was 50. There were no Hex Maniacs involved, and Empoleon was correctly applying it's damage to his Seismitoad earlier in the match against my other Pokemon.

2.    My opponent's Regice had a Hard Charm on it. My Miltank with a Muscle Band, one Empoleon on the Bench, and a Giovanni's Scheme should have knocked it out. Again, no Hex Maniacs or ability silencers were involved.
(Powerful friends:80 + Empoleon's Dignified Fighter ability:20 + Muscle Band:20 + Giovanni's Scheme:20 - Hard Charm:20 = 120
Yet the Regice lived with 100 HP forcing me to concede... The damage was properly calculated as 120 versus an Articuno earlier in the match (without a Hard Charm or Giovanni's Scheme involved). So I can't tell if Giovanni's didn't apply properly or if Hard Charm breaks Dignified Fighter or some other random interaction that may be going on...

On your second situation I would say Giovanni's scheme is the problem as it has been reported several times.

On the first one no clue... obvioulsy the abilities weren't working for a reason or another. Good luck with the ticket submission and hopefully you get a convincing answer.

I'm just throwing out some guesses, but if you would post your game log for the second game, that would be greatly appreciated.

1.)  Did you have assault vest attached to your Pokemon with the opposing Seismitoad-EX having a double colorless energy? That would account for the 40 damage difference you saw. Probably not, but without any abilities being blocked that's all I can think of immediately.

2.) Did you BREAK-evolve your Empoleon? If you did between attacking the Articuno and attacking the Regice, Miltank might not get the +70 damage bonus for having a stage 2 on the bench. That wouldn't cover the entire difference, but if Regice survived with 100 HP that could explain a large part of that discrepancy. If it took 100 HP damage instead (surviving with 20 HP), then probably Giovanni's scheme is at fault.

Would you please post the game log (in a reply if you don't want your first post to be too long)? This very well could be a bug, but it would help us if we could see all of the interactions in play. In any case, good luck with getting this issue resolved!

An third example very similar to my second just occurred a few games later involving Empoleon and Giovanni's. These both appear to be an unfortunate consequence of a Giovanni's Scheme bug where the extra 20 damage isn't applied, as NiñoMutante noted. A bug report thread of similar incidents occurs here on the bug report forums: http://forums.pokemontcg.com/topic/38547-giovannis-scheme-no-20-more-damage-done/?hl=report&do=findComment&comment=447234 The only strange thing is that in both cases, it appears as though you had five other cards in your hand when you played Giovanni's scheme, whereas the bug report I linked to says that the bug occurs when there are exactly four other such cards. Thanks for posting the game logs!

I'm sorry that bugs affected you at the most critical of moments! I definitely recommend submitting bug reports (if you haven't already) with your game logs since something does seem to be wrong here. I hope there is a quick resolution to these problems!

I did submit a ticket with both logs of the bug and will update here if the support crew shares any helpful info. Thank you for your insight!
