Looking for advice on building a water deck

Hey guys, I just started about 10 days ago, have gotten lucky with a couple of trainer packs and I now have 3 gyarados-ex, 1 mega gyarados 1 manaphy-ex and 1 palkia-ex.

I am looking to build a water deck that works for standard. Any suggestions taking advantage of these cards? Any help is appreciated.

Manaphy-EX, Regice (Ancient Origins) and Rough Seas (Primal Clash) can put up a decent fight as Regice's second attack prevents damage and effects of attacks from EX Pokémon and Manaphy's ability will let it retreat without having to discard any Energy (as long as Regice has at least 1 Water Energy) and Rough Seas will heal all of your Water and Electric Pokémon 30HP per turn.

I'm planning on building an archie's empoleon deck with Regice and seismitoad ex. Empoleon gives each of their attacks 20 extra damage which helps rack it up while your opponent will struggle to do much back.

However, you already have most of the makings of a mega gyarados deck. Palkia is good for charging up gyarados quickly and Manaphy can give all of your pokemon free retreat. Golduck break and Max potion mean that you should be able to get a mega gyarados out and attacking by turn 3.

I'd recommend getting one more Palkia and Manaphy and 2 more mega gyarados. Other pokemon that would work well would be octillery for draw power, Golduck break to move energies around, and Regice to wall ex decks. You don't need to use all three of these, though.

My only general advice for water decks is not to just run 4 Rough Seas. I prefer running something like 3 Rough Seas and 1 Silent Lab or 1 Shrine of Memories or Parallel City or something of that nature. This is because when you face off against another water or electric deck it is sometimes beneficial to be able to get rid of Rough Seas, especially if you have a deck that uses Splash damage (which Palkia-EX does).

Also, it's best to run 4 of whatever pokemon you want to start off with, to increase the chance that you start with them. In this case, Palkia-EX.

Hey Gbenheim I hope you don't mind if I use your topic to ask something related to water decks...

Has anyone come up with a good combo for splash energy? Only thing that comes to mind would be a manaphy - final wish ability but still not worth the price card sacrifice...

Any other ideas?

I'm thinking splash energy would work best with Regice. Ex decks would find it nearly impossible to take out 6 Regice in one game. The only thing is that Regice really wants to have dce, which means you'd likely be running 8 special energy. It just seems like splash energy hasn't become very popular due to Max Elixir and Golduck break only working with basic energy.

M Gyrados is a decent pokemon if you have plenty of Super rods available  ;) . I would recommend Empoleon BREAK with Sky Field, that can do some serious damage.
