Breakpoint Pangoro

Shinsones

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I would like to build a deck with him because I'd like to try Parting Shot, but he doesn't seem very viable.

Any suggestions what partners should I team him up with? Or what the deck's core strategy should be? Maybe damage reduction?

You could do something really troll, and pair him up with gigalith. 120 damage reduction sounds pretty hard to break through to me xd

I don't know how viable this would be from a competitive point of view, but it sounds fun at least.

Is that gigalith in expanded? Good idea imma try that xD

It's from Phantom Forces so it's actually in both expanded and standard. Also, I was off by 10 damage (its ability blocks 50 damage when it's at full health) so it woul be 110, or 130 w/ a hard charm, but you would probably need a float stone so that you can retreat back to pangoro.

You could actually pair it with a poison lock (ariados + dragagle) and time it so that your opponent's active pokemon dies after its turn so that you never drop the +60 defense.

It sounds incredibly troll if you ask me but holly molly it would be hilarious to pull off xd

I believe that's 110 damage? that'd still be pretty troll though xD especially if this had the hammers and lasers to go with it xD

I made a thread here a while ago asking about that Gigalith, and somebody pointed out the old Carracosta in Expanded that has a similar ability plus can work with Ice Shield Aurorus. So you can try that with Pangoro too.

I haven't gotten around to trying either deck though (Gigalith or Carracosta/Aurorus), even without Pangoro.

I think Gigalith would have more synergy with the deck, as their abilities are slightly different (Gigalith requires itself to have full HP, while Carracosta relies on a successful coin flip). Carracosta is also a stage 1 evolving from a Restored Pokemon. It could be Archied, but with aurorus, would still be slower than a Gigalith heal engine (which incidentally can be Maxied).

Probably easier to pair with Entie and use Hard Charms/Assault Vests. At least Entie is a basic. Another option would be Raikou, since at least he uses colorless energy.

Probably the best option, however, would just be to use Trevenant or Wobbuffet as at least the 60 damage protection would keep them alive longer.

If you use a Muscle Band on Pangoroo and a Hard Charm or Assault Vest on the one you switch in, then they would still get a lot or protection. Pangoroo/Trev Break might not be bad. Or Pangoroo / Wob / Bats may not be bad.

Maybe 3X3 Pangoroo, 3 Wob, and 3X3X2 bats + 1 Smeargle. Run Something like 8 Darkness, 4 Psychic energy, with Dimension Valley at the stadium.

I tested this deck with Gigalith + Zoroark BREAK today. It's a little too clunky even with Korrina..Gigalith survived assault from Sceptile while it's poisoned lol.

But I think Pangoro's damage is too low and I can't charge Giga fast enough to be attacking. It's time to switch partners

Yeah, I figured as much. Oh well, it was worth a try. Like rgp suggested a pokemon with theta double w/ 2 hard charms would be faster and you'd get only 10 damage reduction less. Entei actually sounds like a good idea.

Yeah I think pangoro's damage is too low to be passive with your switch in. Wobbuffet bats wouldn't be terrible since you could end up doing 110 over 2 turns with muscle band and golbat. Though, Greninja Break might be best. You could have pangoro make Greninja pretty much impossible to kill with an effective 230 hp and have it deal 90 extra damage to anything before going back to pangoro. You could do 120 per turn with a muscle name on pangoro or you could do 170 over 2 turns if you decide to attack with Greninja's mist slash.

I think Greninja Break is a good suggestion. Pangoro is effectively retreating and ending the turn while providing substantial cover to the new active poke (unless opponent switches, too). So the new poke must:

  1. Benefit from starting the turn in the active slot AND
  2. Be cheap to retreat OR be the main attacker from now on

Greninja Break's Ability is powerful, but only works when active. But you generally want to snipe from the bench, so pairing with Pangoro makes sense here.

Metagross AOR Iron Cannon and Magnetic Warp might pair well. Parting Shot, Iron Cannon, magnetic warp to Pangoro. The setup on this would be very slow though. But even without Iron Cannon, you'll be messing with the opponent's rotation while using Pangoro every turn.

One last strategy: Buster Swing, Parting Shot, Dunsparce XY, Second ****. If you can get your opponent poke to 50% HP, Parting Shot will give Dunsparce a setup at the finishing blow. Generally, it would be better to just Buster Swing again, or retreat to Dunsparce instead of giving you opponent another turn to think about what's coming. Just some initial thoughts.

Hi there,

I made an expanded deck, combining this Pangoro with Darkrai EX.

It works rather well but is certainly slowish.

I feel I have too many pokemon and would be glad to have your feedback/suggestions on how to improve the decklist.

Thanks
