So I was using Vileplume/EX Giratina before but I wanna try the real trash and now that Garbodor is back I wanna try him.

I've been hearing his old partner Toad doesnt quite work as well as before? so I'm wondering what would be the best Garbodor control deck to build in the current Standard format?

Mega Mewtwo.

Lucario / Hawlucha (or Garchomp) (With Garbodor Hawlucha can hit for weakness).

Mega Mewtwo doesn't really need much support from anything with abilities except Shaymin.

With Lucario you can use his attack for draw support don't need Shyamin or Octillery, which means you could run Garbodor. Generally I think Garbodor works well with Fighting because Korrina is such a good supporter it makes it easier to get Garbodor out and also makes it easier to run you deck without Shyamin or Octillery.

I see, I am looking for annoying control similar to how Vileplume/Giratina EX used to work I've check the fighting pokemon but they don't seem to have attacks like that? (that deny stuff) maybe I looked at the wrong cards

Nah, Fighting types are really all about dealing as much straight-forward damage as you can using boosts like Strong Energy and Fighting Stadium.

Seismitoad isn't as amazing at it used to be because it used to be used with Virbank City Gym and Hypnotoxic Laser, both of which are not in Standard any more.

Well, since Garbodor shuts off ALL abilities, the first thing that you have to do is make sure that you are running a deck that can function well without abilities. Today virtually EVERY deck uses abilities because at the very least they likely use either Shaymin-EX or Octillery for draw, if nothing else.

So, step 1, pick a deck that can operate without abilities. To do this you mostly rely on decks that have attackers with "effects" on their attacks, like Giratina-EX, Seismitoad-EX, Lucario-EX, etc.

Now, Giratina also relies on an ability, so its not a very good paring with Garbodor.

Lucario is a good way to get the draw support of Shaymin, but without abilities.

Mega Mewtwo is also good, especially if you also use Deoxsys for draw support, because Mega Mewtwo doesn't need really rely on other supporting pokemon with abilities.

Most forms of control require abilities, so if you are going to be shutting abilities down, then most likely you aren't going to be able to do much more in terms of control.

Seismitoad is the main other control pokemon, but since Laser/Bank doesn't exist in Standard, Seismitoad isn't very viable because you can't do enough damage with just a Quaking Punch.

There is also Vanillux, which can shut down Supporters with its attack, so that's an option as well.

But for my money, I think Lucario is the best partner, because you can run a good Lucario deck without the use of any abilities on your side, and by shutting off abilities you will slow down the opponent enough that you should be able to be successful with Lucario's attacks.

Would it be an option to use Tool retrievers and allow your own pokemon abilities when needed, then put back the tool on Garbodor before the end of your turn?

Or would that be too difficult to work with.

Edit : well this won't change anything for Giratina-EX, since its ability is used during the opponent's attacks  :D

If you wanted to try that, use Burst Balloon. Use your abilities, attach Burst Balloon to Garbodor, it's discarded at the end of your opponent's turn and you're free to use your own abilities, then attach Burst Balloon again. Run Eco-Arm so you can do this 6-7 times.

Anyone have an application for this? Aside from being able to ***** Shaymin EX while your opponent suffers? I mean, once you're set up you probably want a permanent lock on abilities anyway and you presumably won't need Shaymin EX or Hoopa.

I'd go with Float stone and Lucario, Landorus or Hawlucha (so it's attack is affected by weakness and resistance), muscle band, strong energy, fight stadium, energy switch, 1 Mega Lucario. Something around these lines. Sycamore, judge, maybe Maxie's for Mega L.

you may prefer a jirachi to knock off SE instead of 4 yveltal, I try to play the odds so that he starts and is able to distribute energy.

also, magma secret base can be a pain if you haven't played hoopa yet.  it fits my "annoy the heck out of your opponent" style.  shadow circle or faded town work fine, don't use silent stadium or it will cancel out your hoopa/shaymin

if you're too new to have shaymin-ex, then replace with birch or shauna supporter or another trainer mail
