How do you get promos that aren't trade locked

When I buy them at the shop they are trade locked

They are locked because you purchase them with tokens.  When purchased with gems, they are unlocked.  Gems are currently only available for Canadian users and cost real money.

You can also redeem unlocked packs & cards using code cards which are found in physical booster packs, purchased from retail stores.

why dont they give a code card for the promo when you purchase a promo pack from a retail store.  seems like that should be the case

There are 2 kinds of tradeable promos you can get:

 

-Some have codes that you find in tins.

-Gem promos which don't have codes and can only be bought via gems (only in canada) otherwise they would be untradeable !

Sometimes those collection boxes (the EX-themed ones) also have codes for the featured cards in them.

Most of the card packs and tins I bought had a promo card in it for online.
