Whats with this trade lock thing?

How does it get there and why can't I trade my stuff?

Packs obtained via Challenges, Trainer Challenge and the losers prize wheel are not tradeable.

 

Packs obtained via code cards, tournaments and the winners prize wheel are tradeable.

The lock on items that take little to no effort to obtain is to prevent people from having multiple accounts and trading everything to the main.

 

I feel like there's room for improvement, though.  Maybe you should be able to trade locked items for items of the same type and rarity.  For example, a Professor Birch for an Ace Trainer.  Maybe add a same set restriction or exclude EXs and full arts.
