will the game be fair for the poor?

Recommended Posts

so as I'm playing, i see that a lot of people have a lot of cards...which is cool and all right? that must mean that they don't have kids, or bills, or other things that inhibit them from buying cards. for us poor people, i have a question.

will there be a mode where you can play other people online (maybe not ranked games or such) where you have all the cards you want available to you, or maybe you have a certain amount of cards you can mix and match to make your decks, so you can play people with the same cards as you... instead of playing people with cards which you cannot get. which in my opinion is completely unfair.

thanks again guys... just trying to equalize my happiness with everyone elses, trying to be fair, and to be a good person. let me know whats up please, be kind to the poor.

yea there should be a mode...for those who dont have great decks to battle with one another. To be honest, you need to struggle to make a great deck man, nothing is free!

I heard that in the future, there will be ways for players to earn new cards, even for non-paying players. I'm not sure if that's true though, but it's still in beta phase, so it's possible.

Also, it is very possible to win even with basic decks. If you unlock all the basic decks and some free booster packs from the closed beta reward, you can still create a pretty descent deck. I never paid a single cent, but I manage to win occasionally against other decks.

Of course, there are some decks that are almost impossible to break with basic decks. That can't be helped, but of course, just have fun. :)

Hey Guys!

We've got some fun plans for the future, but for right now, the only way to get extra booster packs is through the code redemptions in our specially marked BLW Booster packs. Stay tuned for any updates though! Thanks!

I have to agree with Zaehet.

I'm from Hungary, and there is only 2 shops in the entire country which sells pokémon cards. And also one theme deck here cost 4000Ft, which is $22(15Euro) - Boosters are $6.5(4.5Euro). I don't know how much it cost at other countries, but for me a price of a theme deck is the same amount as paying for the internet service of one month.

So I'm also poor, don't really have much money for the cards, but I like to collect them and buy some time to time(means one theme deck/year and 4-5 booster/halfyear) when I got bonus from my boss.

We contacted Pokemon company via the helps of the store to at least help us orangize tournament and official TCG gaming, but we got turned down. :(

So only thing remained to play Online TCG, but no codes, no cards, no play. :S At least put in there the Grass/Fire/Water HGSS decks from single player.

If all players could have a free booster pack per week would be great!teeth_smile.png

Maybe also an extra pack if that player played a lot in that week...angel_smile.png

I heard tokens will be there for buying virtual boosters, but not right away. Ok I do understand that online tcg would make people play less real TCG, so this is why they want us to use codes from real card packs, but still think it would be better if they let those pokemon fan play too, who still don't bought coded cards. That's why I think a fixed and non-buildable HGSS deck from single player would be ok. Eventually, those who starts to play with the HGSS deck will want to buy real cards and bould own deck.

Still sorry for my bad english. I'm trying my best here. ^^'

Not to sound like a jerk or anything but honestly I think pokemon is giving F2P players enough cards to get started I mean I got a booster pack and the yellow starter deck just for joining plus you have the power to unlock 3 more starter deck (if I understand correctly). Now I'm new to pokemon but I've been a F2P tcger on another card game like this (I wont name it but it was one of the first to use online codes and things). On that game they only gave you one deck and no booster and after a while I got very good you just have to watch for site giveaways and other players giving out cards.

Its maybe not be the easyest way to play but if you care enough about the game it really isn't that big a deal trust me I've been there :P

I would personally assume that online pack buying will come from the gems that you see under the tokens but that's just me I don't know that for a fact.

Thanks ~no

It is a business and we shouldn't expect it to be free. On the other hand we don't have the same real life options to buy single cards. After the repackaging I had 266 packs (a little more than 8 boxes) + the closed beta rewards. I only opened HGSS and TR. I ended up with 3x Donphan and 4x Yanmega primes. So at $100 per box that is about $800.

I would like to see an option to buy single cards at a specific credit price. Perhaps Yanmega would be 25 pack credits. Donphan and Magnezone 15. Trainers and supporters 5. The online metagame suffers badly because of the lack of cards and weak decks. It is often a complete waste of time to keep playing Donphan against "Basic Yellow".

Another real life option if to loan cards. Since this is not an online option it also hurts the meta game. Perhaps trades with a time limit that reverses the trade when time runs out would help.

Rankings and ranked tournaments might help somewhat. The ranked games would become more challanging. But we still won't get the best and the brightest if there are other options available.

I dont think the pokemon company got any economic problams...And i think actually more people would buy reallife cards if the viritual cards were for free. Then could every one build their dream decks with out any problam and then they probably want to collect them in real life and the pokemon company will not loose any money.

Im loving how Pokemon is doing the online game. Some other online card games make you pay for the online packs and cards. I love that TPCi decided to give players a FREE online pack for each online code you find in marked booster packs you buy at the store.

Not sure how many you feel a lot of cards are. I have about 2K. I am married, 3 kids, and have bills. I was able to get most of my online codes by trading some of my unused Pokemon cards for credit with one of the online sites for a bunch of booster pack codes. Just a thought.

If you look in the shop where you get the boosters there is an inactive tab that says "cards" right between packs and avatar items.

You can get good decks via trading! I got the Dialga/Palkia LEGEND via trade! Make good offers and good things will come your way!

I think that the person who started this thread does not understand the business model of trading card games. I'm a little skeptical that someone with "kids and bills" would think this way. That said, it *would* be interesting to play in an online league in which everyone builds their deck from a common pool of cards. (Of course, they would have to charge money for this.)

I'm all for giving free cards or booster packs through winning a number of games or with gems. But if they give a number of free packs per month just for having an account I think the cards inside should be marked as not trade-able.

"that they don't have kids, or bills, or other things that inhibit them from buying cards. for us poor people"

I may not have kids, but I certainly have bills, it's called having a job. Being an adult doesn't mean you have no money, in fact because I have a paying job I can pay for all my bills, AND throw a few dollars down on pokemon cards in my spare time. Maybe you'd stop being so poor if you got a job.
