Nuzlockes

Currently I am doing my first nuzlocke, a Heartgold nuzlocke. What I want to know is what were your nuzlocke experiences, did you lose the nuzlocke, how many times did one of your pokemon die to a crit?

I tried starting one in Pokemon X but lost interest approaching the second gym.

I do have both Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and I'm proceeding through them more or less simultaneously (alternating between them as I go). On OR I'm doing a standard nuzlocke while on AS it's a "Wonderlocke" (where you Wonder Trade a caught Pokemon before using it). In all cases, any Pokemon that remains KO at end of battle is declared a casualty and sent to the PC for permastorage.

Last progress report, I was en route to Fallarbor in both games. Team is approximately Lv.25 in both, each toting a history of about a half-dozen casualties.

My Nuzlocke team has had a number of close calls but has generally pulled through. Lost my Pickup Zigzagoon to a Machop and my Cute Charm Skitty to Vicky Winstrate and her Force Palming Meditite. My Taillow got KO'ed once but I was able to revive it mid-battle (not considered a casualty). I also took some KOs against my rival but she was kind enough to heal the team afterwards (also not considered casualties).

My Wonderlocke team has had quite the adventure so far. Had a bit of panic prepping for Roxanne's Gym when I realized half my team (Torchic, Wurmple, and Caterpie) were vulnerable to Rock Tombs, but a trainer with a Marill solved that issue by spamming ROLLOUT like a Miltank on a bad day. Then, my first attempt challenging Inver in Mauville Food Court did not go particularly well, again losing half my team in a single battle and having to wonder trade off the fallen.

You have lost quite a few pokemon... maybe you should consider grinding just a little bit.

As for an update on mine, mine is randomized, so all pokemon, abilities and moves are randomized, but moves are generally the same type as the pokemon. I have an amazing team and haven't lost a single pokemon since Ilex forest, just after the 2nd gym. I have just beaten Pryce (the seventh gym leader) after just three days. My team contains my favourite pokemon, third favourite and seventh favourite. My team, with pokemon, movesets and abilities is.

Blastoise (Squirtie) Level 33 (favourite)

Ability: Colour Change

Moves: Ingrain, Surf, Muddy Water and Body slam

Donphan (Donny G) Level 31 (third favourite)

Ability: Run Away

Moves: Clamp, Fly, Bonemerang and Bug ****

Noctowl (Pidwigeon) Level 31 (seventh favourite)

Ability: Magma Armor

Moves: Secret power, Roost, Tailwind and Drill Peck

Porygon-Z (Cyberquack) level 32

Ability: Flash Fire

Moves: Aqua Jet, Headbutt, Dark Void and Surf

Meganium (Leafasaur) level 33

Ability: Adaptability

Moves: Leaf Blade, Leaf Storm, Air Cutter and Cut

Arcanine (Niney) (Starter) level 33

Ability: Battle Armor

Moves: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Ice Ball and Heal Bell

Pfft, grinding is not the problem, these were things that came out of the blue and took me by complete surprise.  And in a way, that's part of the charm.

That Marill who rolled out half my team, for example, I was able to String Shot it before Caterpie fainted (thus guaranteeing I move first for the remainder of the battle) and Ralts Growled it for what that was worth (it bought Ralts one extra turn before she got knocked out).  All five hits from Rollout struck true (ouch), but with the nerfs to Marill's speed and attack power, my survivors were easily able to finish it off before its could build up momentum with a second Rollout.

And the battle with Invers ... Sneasel hit his Nuzleaf pretty hard (about 80%) before getting taken out by a Dark Pulse, but how was I supposed to know the Nuzleaf was also packing Shadow Ball? (KO Whismur.)

Anyway, here's how the teams stand in both games:

Omega Ruby (nuzlocke):

- "Arlex", Lv.26 Grovyle (team leader)

- "Banzai", Lv.25 Mightyena (with Intimidate and Snarl)

- "Harrier", Lv.23 Swellow (best Speed on team, by far)

- "Flippery", Lv.23 Magikarp (holding back evolution to learn Flail)

- "Kachaa", Lv.24 Hariyama (best HP on team, but slowest)

- "Marie", Lv.24 Azumarill

Alpha Sapphire (wonderlocke):

- "Zexx", Lv.28 Combusken (team leader)

- Mightyena, Lv.26

- Tranquill, Lv.27

- Skitty, Lv.26

- Shuppet, Lv.26

- Lapras, Lv.25 (best HP on team)

Another update on mine

I have now cleared the elite 4 and champion and am currently grinding one of my pokemon before I go to Kanto. Since my last update I have lost my noctowl who I replaced with a togekiss, I have lost my donphan who I replaced with the 'Ho-oh' who was actually a suicune. Also my togekiss that I replaced noctowl with died against lance and I am now grinding up my shiny 'gyarados' who is actually a shiny hippowdon. My meganium, suicune and porygon-z are level 47, my arcanine is 49, my blastoise is 50 and my hippowdon who I am currently training is level 36.

I haven't done a nuzlocke before, but I actually really love watching other people play their nuzlocke adventures!

I'm debating on restarting my Pokemon X game and doing my own version, but I'm not sure how high I want to set the bar for my first try. XD

If you want it easy gen 6 is definitely the way to go, if you want it slightly harder, gen 5, then gen DPP, then hgss. I've never played anything before gen 4 as I am too young to own a gameboy so I can't tell you if those games will be harder.

Thank you for your suggestions! I'll have a go at it with Gen 6 first then. =)

Also, congrats on your win! Are you going to do another?

I thought in a wedlocke, when one pokemon dies, both have to be boxed, if that's the case why is frogadier in your team?

No. if a Pokemon partner dies, they have to be replaced immediately by something in the box, but don't need to be boxed with the other alive Pokemon

Yeah, that's one of those rules that is enforced 'in spirit' while in practice there are a number of ways to handle it.

For example, I allow catching of any/all wild Pokemon that will be immediately sent to the PC.  On my Wonderlocke, this also means that when it comes time to Wonder Trade a fainted Pokemon, I can either Wonder Trade the one that fainted, or Wonder Trade one of my boxed catches in its place.  So while Sneasel may have been taken out of battle, I didn't actually ship her off in Wonder Trade, she's resting in the Graveyard PC box..

usually in my nuzlockes, any kind of run, if I black out, the last Pokemon that died can be brought back, so the challenge won't end until I give up

I have a similar rule defined myself -- and fortunately untested.  Can't stand the thought of resetting the entire save file in the event of a Game Over.

I have recently started the pearl nuzlocke, I have so far gotten 2 badges and had 5 deaths, most of which were due to crits, however luckily I do have a full team of 6 and two pokemon in the box and I am fairly over leveled with my entire team at 25
