[CARD] Yanmega (Phantom Forces #4) - Incorrect damage via Surprise Strike attack against a Pokémon with Silver Bangle (Plasma Blast #88) attached

MaSkullzOnFire

Recommended Posts

So, unless I am missing something here, Yanmega's Surprise Strike attack doesn't work against a Pokémon with Silver Bangle attached. I had Yanmega on my bench, brought it out into play and it only did 50 damage instead of 100.

EDIT

just re read the log and i'm talking rubbish, looks like a bug to me it should have triggered.

maybe it (the bug) was caused by yanny evolving on the same turn you moved him from bench to active?

Hey there,

Yanmega's surprise attack says "50 + If this Pokémon was on the Bench and became your Active Pokémon this turn, this attack does 50 more damage" . I think the yanmega had to be already on the bench to take the advantage of 50 attack . i think on the turn it evolved , it was not on the bench but it came on bench when it was evolved . If i am not wrong yanmega needed atleast 2 turns to do 50 more damage .

I think evolving on the same turn caused yanmega's attack to deal 50 damage instead of 100 damage.

I recommend you to wait for any mod to post a reply here regarding yanmega's attack

If this is indeed the case then Yanmega's attack is bugged regardless as it has never happened to me in any other match I have had when using it. Plus it shouldn't matter when you evolve it so long as you evolve it on your bench as is it still a benched Pokémon, regardless of whether you bring it out immediately afterwards.

Not to mention that, if you read the Game Log I provided, I evolved Yanma into Yanmega around 6 turns beforehand.

Did you mean that you had two yanmega's in play but which yanmega did you put to the active spot then . The one which evolved during turn #65 or the one which was evolved during turn #133 . It seems that it is a bug then , since it had to be on the bench to take that advantage of +50 attack . I think evolving yanmega had nothing to do with its attack . Sorry for the bit of confusion created by me . But tell me was yanma already on the bench when you evolved him or he was active at the time you evolved yanma. If yanma was already active and you evolved him at the active spot then it will only deal 50 damage not 100 .

aye regarldess of when it evolved it was still on the bench and became the active poke on the turn he attacked, as is the clause for the extra damage

first time i read through i was of the impresson he evolved it while it was active. This is not the case, that's why i edited my top post

As stated in the Game Log, M-Manectric was my active Pokémon and I switched it for Yanmega after evolving it. I then attached an Energy to Yanmega and instead of doing the 100 damage like it should have done it only dealt 50.

I have never been able to get a surprise strike attack to deal 100 damage.

I have had it on the bench and made it active after I had Pokémon KO'd and it didn't give 100.

I have made it active after my Pokémon died from being poisoned, and it did not give 100 damage.

I have retreated my active Pokémon, and put yanmega into play and it did not deal 100 either.

I thought i was doing something wrong, but i guess that card has a problem. If I use it again, i will log the match.

Surprise Strike has never worked.

Also, bringing it active after your Pokemon is KO'd by attack, poison, or burn should *not* activate the extra damage from Surprise Strike because Yanmega is already the new active when your turn begins.

@ graywh

I see now how that would apply to my first 2 instances, since they became active at the end of the turn, but i feel it should have worked by retreating the active one and then placing yanmega from the bench to active.

I have not used a switch card to try it though, maybe that is what is needed.

Surprise Strike has never worked.

It has worked for me all the time. The only time when it has failed on me is in the match above when I was up against Silver Bangle.

I remember it not working when PHF was first released.  But I just tested and it certainly works now.

Good to know that the dev-team are looking into this :)

I just had a match where another player had a Silver Bangle attached and, again, the same result happened. It seems that Silver Bangle prevents the attack from doing 100 damage.

Surprise Strike's additional effect doesn't work if Yanmega has a Silver Bangle. A very annoying and game-losing bug that makes no sense. It appears to affect every Yanmega in play, even those that have another tool attached to them than a Silver Bangle. That's all.

edit: Silver Bangle doesn't need to be attached to Yanmega, or even another pokemon that was active before Yanmega. As long as there's a Silver Bangle attached to any Pokemon in play, Surprise Strike's additional effect doesn't work at all.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had 2 Yanmega (PHF) on my bench and a Manectric EX in the active spot. The Manectric EX was knocked out so I made Yanmega (with no energy) active. I retreated the Yanmega (no energy) for the Yanmega (with energy). I used its Surprise Strike attack hoping to deal 100 damage as stated on the card, yet, it only dealt 50. When it comes into the active position it is supposed to deal 100 damage. Please fix this. Thanks.
