Should I wait to decide on theme deck after I get my free booster packs?

My game plan is to beat all trainers with the four free decks before spending any tokens.

My thought process is if I randomly get a good Pokemon from the 45 free booster packs, I could pick a theme pack to build around him. Thoughts on waiting like this? I haven't attempted to build my own deck yet.

It depends on the EX you pull. If you get a Deoxys EX, don't build a deck around it. However, you can trade the packs* and build a nice Night March deck.

*It's been a while since I completed the Trainer Challenge, so I'm not quite sure if you're able to trade these packs.

You can't trade the packs or the cards that come from the packs which you get from the Trainer Challenge.

I'm just trying to be the most efficient I can be without spending money. My next post will most likely include what EX Pokemon (or just powerful) I get... And I will let everyone suggest what theme pack to use to build around them

What you need is to decide WHAT DECK you want to build.

This game is not about: "oh, I have that card, let's make a deck with". This doesn't work but if you have the greatest idea nobody saw. This game it's about: "the XXXX deck is tested, works and I like it, I'm going to build it and for that I need that YYYY specific cards,

Of course you can open the packs and later on say: I have two Donphan cards, or one Virizion, or one Black Kyurem so that's the one I'm going to build, and go for the rest of cards.

At the beginning you should be more interested in what TRAINER cards you will need for almost every tier one deck of the game and try to get it because you can play a fun deck with the appropriate trainers, but you can not make work any deck without it.

Of course theme decks contain some of this staple trainers. And you also can beat all the 36 trainers with every new theme deck so that's still more tokens and some packs.

I feel what you're saying. The best way to make a competitive deck is already know what deck you want.

My whole point is.. I'm not spending actual money, and I want to be able to make a good deck with all of the free booster cards I get from trainer challenge. I was still under the impression you can make a deck around a Pokemon who's power or abilities you like.

I still have much to learn about trainer cards. I'm just thinking I won't make my own deck till I get all free booster packs from trainer challenge... I thought it would be smart (and cost efficient) to analyze if I got any good Pokemon I could build around

I like your game plan, Blacomo. With that many booster packs saved up, that's a wide variety of potential cards, and thus it would be useful in setting up a rough guideline in deciding what to build your deck around. Like in choosing a pokemon type, for example, if you got a lot of strong fighting type pokemon, or a large number of good lighting type pokemon, it would be efficient to build decks based around those respective types. Furthermore, with that many cards, you'd be more likely to have complete or almost-complete evolutionary chains, and thus have less cards left to obtain.

It was disappointing for me when I realize that. It was like "OH, I like that Pokémon, I'm going to play with" at the beginning, but doesn't work :(

After this, there are a large (probably) 3 months collecting cards, reviewing sets and what card comes with each set, checking different decks, what are the staple trainers lines, learning how to trade and not be scammed... until you can build your first tier 1 deck.

Meanwhile you should also check the Theme decks. Take care, some are better than others. Some of them you can play with in theme and still are good, others worth only for some Pokémon/trainers contained and others for the deck idea.

And you can play Theme or build the PLAYFREE deck and improve it with the cards from the packs and get the rewards from the Fortune wheel also which will help you too.

when you finally have "extras" of some cards, bundle them up to trade for packs.  then trade the packs for other things you might need.

one strategy is to keep getting the boosters in the area that you want to build your deck around.  for example, if you want to build a pyroar deck, then focus on flashfire, if you want to build a kyogre-ex deck, focus on primal clash.

I would stay away from the older packs that might get phased out on the next cycle, since your new you don't want to finally get a deck you love and then only be able to use it in expanded or unlimited.

....

also, mark things in your collection for trade or want so that your friends list can see them.

even if your not going to trade, study the trade area until you can discern a great trade for a poor one.

also, you might want to reconsider the 'spending' when you discover there are plenty of websites out there that sell codes for pennies on the dollar compared to when you buy the physical cards.

Where do these 45 free booster packs come from?

Ive been playing the online TCG for about a week. I took the time to go through the three tiers of the trainer challenge on easy, and have since been playing almost entirely theme games in Versus mode and Tournaments.

If there is a way to get a pile full of free boosters, Id like to know because that sounds more efficient than letting the prize wheel do its thing.

So those computer trainers.. When you beat them you get rated up to 4 stars. It continues to pile up for a total score. Once you get four stars (for example) against Zach on the first league... You get a booster pack. And after you get four stars on the first ten trainers, you get an extra 3 booster packs.

So I'm racking up tokens right now... And ima wait to see what rare/good cards I get for free before I spend any money.

Perfect example... I got my first good card today. I four-starred my 4th computer trainer for my 4th booster pack and I got a charizard EX. To me that's a solid start if I wanna get a fire based theme deck. I also been getting good fighting Pokemon. It's just a way to be cost efficient before I attempt to make my own deck.

That sounds like a good deal of grinding, but it should be worth it.

Do you know if these packs are tradeable?

Do you know if difficulty affects how much score you get for each win?

The free packs are not tradable I believe cause I looked at my Charizard EX and it said "trade locked".

And yes the harder the difficulty the more the points you get.

Thanks!

I just finished my four stars on Calvin, and got a secret rare Random Receiver out of a plasma freeze booster.

Really is a shame these can't be traded.
