Chat and Friends don't work on new accounts

My GF downloaded the game yesterday and is having trouble adding people on Pokemontcg Online, she also cannot chat as well, I tried helping her check her account settings but it does not work. I made sure she had all the settings set to open so she can be able to chat, but when she logs in to the game and attempts to go into the chat or search/add friend section it cannot be clicked. Any suggestions?

Hello trainer,

Please make sure port 5222 is open on her router. This port is necessary to access the chat and friends features.

If this doesn't work or the port is already open, please have her submit a ticket to the support team on her own behalf with as many details as possible. The support team will be able to take a closer look into this issue and work with her one on one.

Thanks for your patience! :)

My friends are having this issue too. They also can't PVP. Apparently their chat and even notifications are grayed out. I think it's an issue with recent accounts or something ever since they changed the main site UI.

Everything is grayed out for me. Me and a friend of mine are furious at how long we've been trying to find out how to add each other in the game.

This is the longest time I've ever spent trying to actually start playing the frickin game. I've been in the main menus and on the website for about 2 hours now.................

This is so frustrating. Nothing is working.

And yes, I have all the required ports open. As the matter of fact I have a DMZ in effect.

EDIT: Also at some point the whole social tab changes to Game Log on it's own and there is no way to switch back to the friends/chat one....

EDIT2: I was playing on a new account and on it it doesn't work. I logged in with this (old) one that I made long time ago when I played the game in the web browser, and here it works. So broken...

This is as broken as it gets.

A friend a me downloaded the client and made an account.

Neither one of us can access the chat or friends features.

After some time I tried using a really old login that I had since I played in the browser.

Apparently, on that account both things work.

All accounts have social settings set to OPEN.

We were trying to get this to work for a couple of hours now but it just got incredibly frustrating to the point that he just uninstalled the game.

GG

P.S. also it's amazing how FEW resolution options there are available. I'm just stunned. Not even a 1680x1050..

Also trying to communicate something in the chat is virtually impossible because 9/10 random words are apparently filtered.

Probably the worst game experience I've ever had with a game.

I've seen Alpha stage games that were more ready and working than this.

Good luck with the game.

I am unable to add friends or view the friends list. I have installed the game on two different computers and logged in with different accounts with no change.

What I assume are the Contact list and Chat Icons are grayed out.

Firewall/Antivirus is not an issue.

I have verified that the social settings on the account are open.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem with the chat box function with me.

When I logged in one day, I found that I was unavailable to talk in chat boxes or pm, and every time I do, my message is replaced with something like your account has been muted by a moderator, check your email for more information, or something like that, and every pm shows up blank to others. I tried checking my mail, but nothing came up, and every attempt I had at getting support from pokemon technical support via email through one of the listed methods, it redirected me to something else. So yea, wondering if anyone know a fix to this problem.

BTW- it's been about a week now that ive been muted.

I'm pretty sure this is also an issue with new accounts. My friends have made accounts recently and can't add friends, chat, view notifications or PvP.

Kind of silly how they haven't addressed this yet. Think it's been like 4 days. They could try to replicate the issue by making a new account or something, idk.

Definitely not a port issue. They tried playing at my house. Quite ridiculous how they can't even access the forums to post anything due to a term agreement redirection loop to the main site, which has nothing to do with the TCGO client.

Hello trainers,

I've merged the threads regarding this issue and will be sending this up to the Dev team for review. If you haven't yet, please do try the suggestions I've given in my first post and let us know if that helps.

In the meantime, we greatly appreciate your patience and support!

Hello again!

Regarding the issue of chat and friend functions not working for new users, please try the following:

  • Log into pokemon.com.
  • Navigate to your profile via the sidebar and click "Edit Profile".
  • Click "Pokémon TCG Online Settings".
  • Set your Social Preferences to Custom and switch any of these settings to something other than the default setting.
  • Click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.

This should allow you to access your chat and friends functions with no problems. :)

Regarding the issue of accepting the EULA on pokemon.com, please try or have your friends try clearing their browser cache and attempting to accept the agreement again, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks again for your patience!

Has this worked for anyone? A friend of mine created a new account 2 days ago, and can't use chat or find friends. The tabs are grayed out, as people here describe. He tried this fix, and it did not work. How many of the settings need to be changed?

I am asking about this for him, because the forums don't even let him log in. As others have suggested, this has been extremely frustrating.

Exactly what I mean. They can't even voice out their problems on the forums with the EULA redirection lock-down. Who knows how long this will take. They can attempt to submit tickets but even the tickets my friends submitted aren't getting any response over 7 days.

From my observation, this happened roughly around the time the main site had a UI change while this forum stayed roughly the same. Something about the new accounts and their privacy settings have gone wacked.

Even so, they should be able to view their notifications history on the TCGO client like "You got this achievement" or "You opened this booster pack". Nope. Not even that.

This is pretty misleading and discouraging for those who recently got into and purchased Pokemon TCG items with codes provided the fact that they can't even trade or enjoy the social aspects of the online client.

I'm trying to get my friends into the game but with this happening, I don't see how it's possible.

Lemme outline this out:

"New accounts cannot..."

- Use/view chat (grayed out)

- Make friends (grayed out)

- PvP (stuck/error)

- Trade

- Use/view forums (EULA redirection issue, clearing cookies does not work)

- View notifications (achievements, pack openings, etc. which I cannot see as a privacy issue, that's just weird)

From what I know, changing privacy settings to Limited/Custom doesn't fix this.

What the tech staff should do is make a mock/temp account and see it in action... That's what I think anyway.

It looks like the login server is not properly passing the social preferences for new accounts to the game client. The team responsible for this functionality is aware of the issue and are actively working to fix the problem. We anticipate a resolution to this issue this week.

Taking them an awfully long time (about 2 weeks since the issue existed), but at least something is going on :P I hear from my friends that they can now access the forums.

Hello trainers!

From the latest announcement at http://www.pokemontcg.com/forums/announcement.php?f=524&a=64:

The community recently alerted us to a bug which prevented accounts created after February 1st from accessing the Friends and Chat features of the game. Additionally, these users could connect to the PvP server, but would be left in the "Searching for opponent" state indefinitely. We identified the cause of this bug and released a hotfix to address it yesterday evening. Users who continue to experience connection issues with the Social or PvP features of the game should log in at http://www.pokemon.com/support and submit a support ticket for further assistance.

I'll be closing this thread now. Thanks for your patience!
