what happened to the old forum format

i've noticed the forums went downhill ever since the new format

 

1). Way more restrictions are put on what you can do (Such as no cross overs)

 

2) Most of the features that were helpful and cool are gone (no more 'who's online?' or 'last seen')

 

3) No offense to the Profs, but has anyone found that 'thank you for logging in (insert screen name her)' screen annoying?

 

I'm not trying to complain. But this used to be one of the most popular parts of the websites. maybe bring back some of the features? please (i'm not saying change the rules, I'm saying bring back some features and maybe alter the rules a little)
