Silhouette found in flash coding here?

For those of you who dont know, someone decompilled the flash code of this site and found a silhouette which could be a new Pokemon.

<img src="http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/new_sil.png" alt="" />

As you can see here

http://www.flashprobe.com/fetch/http://assets.pokemontcg.com/Tutorials/TutorialNavigation.swf

it is coded along with Snivy and the other starters, although they arent in that exact set of code.

I havent seen images of the starters like that anywhere here, so maybe they are just filler or left-over coding from something else. That still doesnt explain why a image of an unknown creature or pokemon is there. I't also doesnt make sense why a new and unreleased Pokemon would be here on an English language TCG website in the first place

Could a mod explain this please?

The silhouette is probably just a test image for prototyping the game before adding the final artwork. Game programmers usually use test, "programmer" art until the game is in a finished state, at which point the actual artists' art is included. The silhouette is highly unlikely to be an unannounced Pokémon since it hasn't yet been found in the coding of Black & White and those games have been almost completely dissected since their release in Japan. If it were to be a new Pokémon or a new form for an existing Pokémon, it probably wouldn't be announced until the next iteration of the generation 5 games.

This "someone" that extracted it would like to hear an explanation, too. (btw, Flash Probe doesn't catch everything; there are three sets of each starter and this guy)

Also, Ho-Oh was revealed to American audiences before Red and Blue were released. Just putting it out there.

MYTH BUSTER!

Wow, I am almost sad to report the truth on this matter as the speculation across all the boards have been great and varied. @Chrixeleon is correct. That image is merely place holder art. This is a common occurance in games and when the art gets removed, sometimes the code has reminents.

On the plus side, on the official Pokemon TCG Online forums, you will get the truth straight from the source, as unexciting as that may be at times. :) Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

ok thanks for replying. But-) why couldnt they have just used Pikachu or one of the starters as a placeholder? XD

Normally place holder art isn't supposed to look 'real' or like it 'belongs' so that it doesn't accidently get overlooked and make it into the game.

well yeah, i guess that makes sense. wha-(t) was it though? Someone's fake pokemon -) or did they just make it up on the spot?

Probably they just wanted something that didn't look like any Pokemon, so they made a Houndslash instead. Hmm... Houndoom and Sandslash... Could that be the next Skitty/Wailord?

Maven, thank you for an official response on this! As always, inquiring minds just got to know! regular_smile.png

Everyone else: It's just a placeholder. Nothing more, nothing less.

Great! So now people can stop overeating and speculating about the third version or Gen VI and focus on Black and White and this game.

so you dont buy their explaination immewnity?

Not completely. The explanation would have been more believable if there wasn't a part after it saying that "On the plus side, on the official Pokemon TCG Online forums, you will get the truth straight from the source, as unexciting as that may be at times." If that wasn't there, I'd believe this explanation more. That, and if I had knowledge of the section Prof_Maven works in at TPCi.

(sorry for the weird wording; weird censor.)

Aww. And here I thought we were going to have a new Pokemon. It's fine, I guess. We still have a whole new generation of Pokemon to enjoy.
