Give us battle mode with out EX cards??

I have been playing for quite some time now, but every time i pick a battle i will end up fighting an opponent who have like 4xEx metwos 4xEx Darkrais an so on.. I think it's pretty sad becouse they aren't really balanced (Ex cards), so it will force me to use them aswell if i want to stand a chance. I belive the charm about pokemon cards are that there are so maney different pokemons you can use, but aslong Ex cards are in the game you are forced to use them.

Salution for this problem:

Make 2 new game modes

1. A game mode witch dosen't allow Legendarys at all, and Ex cards. ( Still on Expert)

2. A game mode witch dosen't allow Ex cards ( Still on Expert)

This is a Beta afther all, so this is my feedback, hope it will be consideret.

The new battle area would then just be donminated by 4-5 other cards that would rise in price.

Leaving you with the same problem.

Garchomp, Empolianon ...

The match maker should try to help with this, but it all depends on the number of people looking for matches.

I can sympathize a little, the other day i wanted to test out the Poison Ability Scolipede and wanted to run it as an attacker so i chose novice mode. And the opponent i ended up with was running a mixed format Blastoise/Keldeo ex deck. It had HGSS cards mixed with current EX cards and trainers like Catcher/N/Skyla and so on. It can get annoying but like the user above said there is a match maker that tried to pair even matched decks together but its a matter of people playing at the same time as you.

I support this idea, i dislike EX cards, i don't think i own even 1 anymore, yet it is impossible to find a fight against someone with similar views.

My decks actually do okay against EX decks but it's still annoying to face them every game, as an opponent that pulled a good hand can easily snowball hard.

The communitys lack of creativity and originality disturbs me.

Hello, hello Trainers!

I'm loving the feedback here! Us Mods always love to hear what our community has to say and we've taken in the suggestions you guys have put here. I'm going to roll it along, like a Donphan doing a rollout. Always let us know about any bugs you catch, suggestions you may want to share and so forth! And make sure to always check back for updates on any card/game bug fixes and exciting new updates!

Making a new, EX-less format won't change anything; TBurrows pretty much covered it.

If this does get implemented, you'll just start complaining about how you see nothing apart from Garchomps, Empoleons and Terrakions, with the occasional Blastoise/Kyurem and Ninetales/Amoonguss. Then what? Are you going to ask for a match setting without any holo rares?

And if this gets implemented, I'm taking you all down with my Stoutland deck.

Well.. I don't have any EX-Cards in my current deck and until now I don't have any trouble with EX-decks. EXs aren't THAT stong. Just annoying :D

But okay, a mode with special conditions like only HGSS cards or anything in that way would be a nice extra.

Pokemon has always been like this. Pokemon is not a balanced game, there has always been a large number of useless cards. The EX cards had solid competition against each other, Empoleon wrecks Landorus, and Terrakion Eats Darkrai. Even Garchomp/Altaria its pretty strong if it gets set up.

But most of the rest of the cards are mediocore at best and that's not something you should ever expect to see change so long as Game Freak/Nintendo runs the card game.

Don't blame The Pokemon Company, cards have been unbalanced from the very beginning. Not just Pokemon TCG, either, every trading card game ever made. Pokemon tcg, for example, had 3 years (2006-2008) where the biggest deck was Gardevoir/Gallade. Compared to that, the current metagame is positively diverse. Get creative! There's still lots of cards that are playable with a bit of effort put into making it work.

I'm for this, I've gave novice a try and I just wanted a plain battle but, find people who has a deck of Exs like about 6 times. So a game mode without Exs should be mandatory.

Attack attack attack! Fear not! Those pesky EX's can be defeated... since i've been playing ive been perfecting the perfect deck to get around that annoying Mewtwo that nearly everyone seems to have. with enough manipulation, one can get around the predictable pattern that EX decks seem to follow. it's been fun!

This is why I play theme decks only. It feels alot more balanced. In the end it's really going to be who got the lucky hand... But it can still be fun that way. You don't have to worry about a 200 HP EX with two energy cards 2 rounds in being capable of destroying youre entire deck in a single hit. You get a little more time to try and build a counter.

If oyu don't like EXs, make room for Sigilyph. Sigilyph + any half-decent attacker should make it all too easy, especially if you know the nonEXs people use..

i think this is a good idea even though i have traded A LOT to get all the cool FAs exes out there.

There will definetly be more playable decks that way, but the problems will be the same:

-Even less decks will be dominating ( for example: discard decks, Altaria / garchomp and Empoleon decks)

-You will divide the player base even more (right now is only modified / unlimited)

-Will not encourage people to get exes or buy packs, as the other cards are easier to get.

-The game is kinda designed to make decks making use of the exes (for example plasma storm exes + plasma energies + plasma trainers) and looking for them is part of the trading experience.

In my opinion another way to solve this would be doing a good matchmaking system, with rewards / achievements, where even if u get only 1 ex from packs u can use it to raise your mmr and get those prices.

The only thing this game is missing is mmr!

See the problem with either of these is that you don't solve the problem of this game's meta being the definition of anti-fun.

The anti-fun part being everyone has to play these handful of decks if they dont want to just get stomped on. The original purpose of not being able to have more than 4 of a single kind of card was to prevent having half a deck of the same most powerful card. And instead to have some deck strategy, or at least a type strategy. This seems to have been forgotten.

And unfortunately this game in it's current state will always be that way. In the meta you will have 3 or 4 ultra decks and one deck built specifically to counter that. With or without EX's (if they were to get banned). And it makes it pointless to build and try new decks unless you are a hardcore theory crafter.

There are only two ways around this. And it would be such a huge change that the hardcore meta players would flood the world with their tears, so it'll never happen.

Regardless the only two ways to reformat the meta would be to make certain limits. Wether they be point based on rarity or just flat rarity based.

Point based on rarity limit:

-Every deck will have a max point system. Like 100 or 200 points. Something that will promote balanced, fun, and fair decks. Except for unlimited decks, which will have no point limit.

-Every card will be assigned a score based on it's rarity. Commons and Energies will be worth the lowest amount of points. Rares, Rare +s , and EX will be worth a ton of points.

-Nothing new would have to be added since the cards have their rarity printed right on them already. Something we could easily make use of.

-The old limit of only 4 of each type of non-energy card would still be in effect

-This will prevent decks from being nothing but mass EX's but still allow trainers to use one or two EX's.

-This is a safe way to continually improve and change the game as new cards are released because all you would have to do is change the numbers around. Instead of 100 point decks you could change it too 120. Or whatever it would take to promote a fun game that trainers can try exciting and different decks with.

The other option of a Rarity Based deck building system would be much more simpler

-You can only have so many cards of a certain rarity value.

-For example in a typical deck you might have 36 common and energy cards/ 19 uncommons / and 5 rares / rare +s / or an some EXs. A common standard in most prebuilt theme decks.

-Of course there would be no real limit on how many common or energy cards you had as long as you don't go over a 60 card deck

-And with enough testing you could eventually change it so if you want an extra rare or higher ranked card you would have to saccrfice the amount of uncommons you can have by a certain amount. the addition of another rare might mean you drop 4 uncommons and replace them with more commons or energies.

Of course either of these would only be easily done with the online version of the game. Which is the only version I'm interested in. I'm sure actual game store / hobby store managers that run events would have a bad time trying to calculate everyones deck before a tourny started.

Im pretty sure people need to just get over the fact that EX are part of the game and learn to beat them, if you can't then play novice. Point...Set...Match! PIDGEY!!

The point of making a format without EXes is that a lot more decks would be viable. There are a lot of decks that just can't stand massive burst (LostGar, Durant, rogue decks in general) that would come into play. Players using Amoongus/Ninetails and Garchomp/Altaria decks would have a good challenge against the stars of the HGSS format, and it would ressurect the best of the new collections (IMO): the Primes.

The problem is, you even find those decks in Novice. I played against two meta decks on novice difficulty. Nothing says killjoy like having to deal with Mewtwo ex that snowballs easily on novice, and destroys any chance of setup.

Even (as far as I know) Empoleon still needs a bit of setup (you have to find the basic pokemon, the stage 1 pokemon or rare candy, and the stage 2. In some cases, also the energy for it as well. Mewtwo EX? Just play, attach lots of energy, run amok on their team.)

I really want a format without EX Pokemon, but if they make one and call it "Beginner" or "Novice" or something, I probably wouldn't use it =/ It would be insulting, considering that many players who don't use EX Pokemon are certainly not "beginner/novice" players =/

Hope they're reading this thread and are working on it! :)
