Discuss rewards

Hello,

I created this topic so we could have a discussion about the (possible) upcoming rewards and also maybe come up with a good suggestion for the Professors.

So first, let us describe the different games there are, you have:

- Trainer battle (pre-defined decks against AI)

- AI battle (customised deck against AI)

- Friend battle (customised deck against another player)

- Novice battle (customised deck against another player)

- Intermediate battle (customised deck against another player) = something we want and might come in the future

- Expert battle (customised deck against another player)

- Tournament battles (rotated decks against another player)

And we can divide this further into a win and a loss.

As of now trainer battles give 1 token for winning and expert battles give 1 token for participating (regardless win or lose).

And for the fact that you can not play with your own decks in the trainer challenge, I think that many players will not spend much time there. They complete the se 36 battles to unlock basic decks and understand the basics of pokemon card game, but after that will most likely not return there.

So that leaves us only with expert battles with rewards.

As of yet I have not yet spoken about the value of the rewards, but just about which battles do receive a reward and which do not.

In my opinion both, the winner from a novice battle and the winner from an expert (and intermediate if it comes), should receive a reward. And the loser from those battles should ONLY receive a reward, if the game ends. Because currently in almost 90% of the cases the loser will just concede with often 3+ prize cards left.

I do not think friend battles should reward anything, because that would become too easy to exploit. Additionally the AI battles could give a small reward for winning depending on the difficulty, but still smaller than winning a novice battle.

Tournaments should definitely give any reward since it requires a key to enter. But since there is not much known about tournaments yet, I ll skip it for the rest.

Lastly, there could be a daily gift after logging in / winning a PvP match.

Now on to the value of the rewards, and here is where it becomes difficult. Everyone likes to get new packs, but handing out free packs like candy after winning a game is definitely not the right way to do it.

Personally i much rather earn my cards by playing the game, than just simply throw in some $$ and have it all instantly. Whats left to play for then?

I think the easiest way would be to to give the specific matches (that are discussed above) an amount of trainer tokens and then make a shop with the different booster packs / theme decks that can be bought for those tokens.

Obviously it has to take a serious amount of effort in order to be able to buy a booster pack.

Additionally they could make a small discount (like 10%) on booster packs that are no longer in rotation if the rotation kicks in. They could also sell trainer tokens for $$ directly on their website, since all of us are buying codes from ebay now, which is pokemontcg not helping at all.

The only problem i see with this is that currently on the pokemon website it is easy to get tokens by playing those games and for the past months people that did play expert mode will already have a major pile of tokens while players that played novice mode will barely have any.

A Friend battle is against AI? Or is that just some kind of typo? And: We are dividing the Trainer Battles in difficulty for reward, right?

Compared to winning at Hard-level, winning a Novice match seems considerably more difficult, so I'm worried that giving rewards in tokens will lead to extremely high number of tokens as a reward, so we should consider gems too.

For instance, the ability to buy gems and subsequently buy such a thing as a theme deck with it could boost the online community.

Not saying we should eliminate the possibility of buying a pack trough tokens all together, but I have no awnser to the problem.

Getting discount after rotation kicks in only seems fair, and buying tokens might be possible by trading bought gems for them.

Well, so far we have absolutely no information at all about the gems. So talking about them would only be guess work, but wheter the currency is called "trainer tokens" or "gems" should not matter. The game only needs one currency

And I do think expert battles should reward more than novice battles, because if you make it equal everyone will start playing novice battles, even with full EX cards. But on the other hand, if you make the difference too big, even the people with a terrible deck will play in expert. Because of the reward is so much higher, but their win ratio lower, so in the end they still earn more. I think expert battles should earn up to 50% more rewards than novice battles at most. And you can keep a deafeat in a battle (unless concede) the same reward for both novice and expert.

As for the store itself. Here is currently ony one pack per set. Ive seen a lot of other card games that have different packs. For example a pack 10 commons or a pack with 8 commons and 2 uncommons etc. These are then obviously cheaper than the current pack (5 common + 3 uncommon + 1 rare + 1 random). Or they could even alternate the amount of cards in a pack, for example cheaper packs with only 5 cards inside.

But i do not know if this is possible to create since that does not exist either in the real pokemon card stores.

*and yes, friend battle against AI was a small mistake from my part. I changed it now.
