Arrow Thingy While Playing?

When I play a pvp match I have a box with my portrait in the lower-right corner. On the upper-left corner of that box is an arrow that usually points down. When I click on it, it points up. Anybody know what this does?

During a game, your general options appear as grey beams with black text, I do believe, such as: Attack, Retreat, etc.

 

When the arrow points down, these are all visible and block view from your Discard Pile, when the arrow is pointing up, they aren't there so they don't block said view.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, thank you sir! I usually mess with it in the beginning or on others' turns so I had yet to figure that out!
