Adding friends

So this friend system seems confusing to me. As far as I can tell, in order to add a friend, I go to the "Chat" icon up top next to settings, then I select the "friend" tab, and search the username of the person I want to friend.

 

Am I doing this correctly, and how will I know if the friend accepted my friend request? If I'm doing this wrong, how do I do it right?

Hey cadethian,

 

There are a couple things to check in order to see if your friend accepted your request. If they have accepted your request and appear online their name will be displayed in green letters on your friends list. Also if you select the versus option and select "battle a friend" your friends list will appear on the right side of the screen. If they accepted their name will show up on this list.
