Overpowered Decks In Novice

Recommended Posts

I just started playing a few days ago and I'm getting really discouraged, these people I get matched with in Novice end up having super rare cards or Ex cards. I really like the game but It's not fun losing 70% of my games because the opponents cards are just so much better than the basic yellow and the one theme deck I have. Is this just how it is or?....

i have to admit i played a few novice games before realizing i wasn't on expert. i think an easy fix for this to help out just a little would be to make the novice and expert buttons different colors or at least give those buttons something to stand out and look different. they are massive buttons but at the same time i almost don't even notice them.

People could also be purposely playing on novice to make them feel better about a blowout win haha.

But really, I wouldn't put it past some people these days.

From my experience people seem to migrate to the novice section with strong decks because the decks lack structure and don't do well against the really good decks. So people tend to go to the novice section which is flooded with people who have very limited resources at this time and they run wild on those players. That on tops of several bugs being exploited is tainting some players experience unfortunately.

The same thing will happen in Expert except the other way around. People will try to play expert level with a basic yellow deck and wonder why everyone else is so much more better then they are. Hopefully as the roll out more features refining a search option for finding an opponent of equal skill level could do a lot of good.

It's a problem often talked about before the long break. Of course there are always exceptions (people with top-tier decks still going to Novice), but most of the times, the problem is the lack of an Intermediate option. Basically, you have: top-tier decks, starter decks, and everything in-between which can range from slightly stronger than starter to only slightly weaker than top-tier. Everyone in-between, including those with decks only slightly weaker than top-tier, goes to Novice, as they don't stand a chance against top-tier and so Expert isn't fun for them either despite their still very powerful deck.

This is by the way also why so many starters are in Expert: since the "Intermediate"-group is so much bigger than the "Expert"-group, people with starter decks flock to Expert, as the chance is smaller they face someone powerful there (basically, you could see it like this: 10 Expert players, 100 Intermediate players in Novice. If 10 Novice players were to want to battle each other, they'd best go in Expert)

I know what you mean, I've seen quite a few basic yellow decks while playing expert.

I know this post was made right after playing against me, but like i tried to tell the OP while playing was that i had just made my deck, a hyrdegon darkrai but with only 1 darkrai, which is why i went to test my deck in novice. Now when i said that the OP was constantly saying that i don't belong in novice with those cards and as much as i tried to tell him that i agree their should be a middle (between expert and novice) he never tried to hear me out...complained and never listened

I typically do my deck testing against CPU opponent.

1st hello fellow Pokeplayers and To u Tburrows again.2nd,this is a widely discussed thing thats gone on for a long time eh T.As long as i can remember this has been an issue. For those with new decks that honestly are just testing their decks before moving on to expert.I myself use it to test modifications to improve or just testing a brand new deck.Ive got like 12 new decks now instead of the simple old 6.3rd,if people want more advanced players out of novice then i do believe that beginners should stay out of expert right;well this is an age old issue thatll never go away.Players should stick to where they feel comfortable and thats as simple as the flow of a river over the age of time right; Not!I too have battled some few who sholdve stayed in novice;so i thought at first. But,to my surprise gave me a great BATTLE!And;as T knows i live for CHAOS and BATTLE.So maybe we should just let things be as they may for now and watch what happens. Then let Time be the Descission of what happens. There are those who will disagree;however, let things unfold and rise in the folds of time before we make any rash descissions.

To all,Happy battles.Till we meet in battle and let the CHAOS and the fun begin-Stay strong in mind and body and dont be affraid to put yourselves into your deck.Let your deck be an extension of you.FIGHT!

I don't disagree with playing against the CPU, but most of the time, they do anything they can to let you win...but i will try and go test against the CPU from now on if it makes people happy...I'm not here to scare away anyone from playing this game

i use the basic yellow deck and i have the money to buy codes, but i don't have access to buy them on ebay i've been done buying pokemon cards since i was 11. Now my collection that i spent about 6 years collecting is worthless to a game i helped start up from scraping up a savings(when i was 8 i had to buy my own stuff, except for bdays and christmas of course :D) to buy these cards. a good $200+ came from a kid....

What am i trying to say? I'm still trying to figure that out........Oh yeah. I would really like to bring those cards into this game, but some dumb rotation thing would make them ineligible to use on september 1st, another money maker am i right? What am i trying to say? I'z is sayin i'z gonna use dat basic yeller deck.
