I love all the water ones, though I think Mudkip is the best. <img src="http://www.pokemontcg.com/javascripts/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/png/teeth_smile.png" alt="" />

@PhantomSky: do u liek mudkipz? tounge_smile.png

Anyway, I'd have to say Snivy. Who cares if it's almost useless competitively without Antagonist? My Serperior (named "Louis" after Louis XIV, aka the Sun King) is a decent mixed attacker!

1st gen: Squirtle

2nd gen: Totodile

3rd gen: Treecko

4th gen: Turtwig

5th gen: Snivy

Total: Probably Treecko.

Treecko really is just because of Grovyle, which is because of PMD2.

I coincidentally picked the Fire starter for the first 3 generations, even though I have no preference for Fire-type Pokemon. I guess the others were just lame (AHEM, CHIKORITA.)

Generation 4's Piplup was my favorite starter until Oshawott, *********** I **** Samurott, I'm not evolving my starter past Dewott.

... aaaaand the censor is messing up my post.

Agreed. The water starter is the way to go. You can beat all the main series games just by using your water starter to battle all the trainers you see, use repels in the wild, and get an HM slave. Fully evolved, the water starters can use surf, earthquake (dig for Samurott because it can't learn earthquake), ice beam, and another 4th move of your choice depending on the situation.

That's if you don't care about stat specialization at all.

For example, Empoleon is obviously best as a special sweeper, with an effective Agility [subPetaya] set with Surf and Ice Beam/Grass Knot (or both if you forego Substitute...)

Blastoise is best as a Rapid Spinner, and Feraligatr is basically useless without his Dragon Dance + Waterfall + coverage (Return/EQ/Crunch would be good ideas).

After beating the game's story, you can breed and train the perfect water starter you ever wanted.

...Mmhmm. And all Pokémon have base stats that determine how good they'll be in a specific role, along with movepool (since all water starters have the same typing (except for Swampert and Empoleon) and same ability (Dream World not included)).

Blastoise will never be able to sweep since it's relatively slow and its attacking statistics sort of stink. It's built to take hits. It does have Water Spout but is too slow to really use it well.

Surprised no one has said Pikachu said, unless I missed it?

Easily Pikachu is mine since Yellow was my first game and I was almost obsessed with the lil guy when I was 8.
