Why do people hate the EXs so much? They aren't overpowered because of the 2 prize rule. Honestly, they are just as easy to KO as Zekrom or Terrakion. Also, the same "problem" is happening IRL.

The people who created this game thought out all of the advantages/disadvantages of the EX's before they just through them into game-play. All the EX's have a weakness, and again, you get 2 prize cards for knocking them out. The only EX that I feel has slightly more of an advantage, I have to say, is Mewtwo EX. If you draw a Mewtwo in the beginning of the game, odds are that you won that game. I personally don't even like using Mewtwo, but lately, everybody has one or FOUR in their decks, so you almost have to throw one in your deck just to defend against your opponents Mewtwo. Besides that I feel EX's are fair to play with. Also don't forget there's another set of EX's coming this next month, so if you feel these are unfair, wait until you see the new Darkrai! Pre-Releases were just out here this weekend and we have more next weekend (sure it's the same everywhere else), so I give it about 2 weeks before Dark Explorers is online.

Anyways, I don't know how many times I have to say it, EXs are NOT overpowered! Yes, most of them are strong, but only good when used the right way! For example, you can't just put Zekrom EX and a few Lightning Energy in your deck, otherwise, you will most likely only be able to use Strong Volt once, Zekrom EX must have support (Eelektrik NV) so it can use it as many times as the user likes!

 

You can't just put Mewtwo EX in anything, play it as a main attacker, and put all your Energies on it! You would lose every time! There's a thing called the Mewtwo War. (lets say both players have 4 Prizes left) Player 1 puts a Double Colorless Energy on his 1st Mewtwo, and attacks player 2's active Pokemon, player two sets up his Mewtwo, plays PlusPower, and revenge KOs player 1's active Mewtwo for two prizes instead of one. Player 1 decides to use his 2nd Mewtwo to KO player 2's 1st Mewtwo. Player 2 brings up his 2nd Mewtwo and KOs player 1's 2nd Mewtwo for the win.

 

Shaymin EX does not need much explamation, it has 110 HP and is only useful later in the game anything that hits 110 + KOs it.

 

Reshiram EX is hard to use, one wrong flip and you lose because you KO yourself. (trust me, I've done it before)

 

Regigigas EX takes FOREVER to charge up, and if you use it in Celebi Mewtwo Tornadus, it rarely gets the donk.

Sorry to everyone if this came off as rude, it's just that these kinds of threads get to me and stress me out due to people who, for the lack of a better word, think their opinion is the ultimate opinion and other people have no say in what they think and will not listen to reason have been annoying me and it's really getting on my last nerve. In booster drafts, if you don't pull an EX, you cant win against one. Period. Overall they are not that bad (except Mewtwo) but if you play booster set only or enter a draft, the monsterous HP is too much to overcome. With virtually no catchers, players can wait to the breaking point with their EX then retreat them to the bench for good.

 

However, Pokemon TCG is all about the EX's and everydeck needs to run them if they want to compete. Those that want to evolve pokemon (which I think is a huge part of pokemon as a whole) are not rewarded for their choice.

 

Honestly, I think EX's in format are fine, but I do have a slight problem with them being "basics". I believe if they were considered their own thing, it would balance them out very nicely.

Togekiss has to take three attacks and if I flip a heads I don’t get to do any damage and then they just KO me. It’s also unfair that you have to spend money to get them. It means people that open more packs have an advantage. They can just put one of every EX in a deck and they don’t even need other pokemon because they’re all impossible to beat. It’s unfair and it takes no strategy to win ever. That’s why the same people win the big tournaments every year. They just buy the most expensive cards and put them all in a deck and then win. They clearly don’t think about their moves, or build a deck with synergy, or practice, or anything. If EXs were banned I know I would be able to win at tournaments too.

 

All of the legendary pokemon should also be banned. They are all rare and are really hard to find so it’s not fair that some people can use them and some people can’t. They have too much HP. Zekrom and Reshiram and Kyurem are broken. Many people use a deck with all three of them and just crush their opponents because their all so overpowered they don’t need any help to win. They have more than 100 hp and they are basics! Kyorge can also do 40 damage to all of your pokemon with one attack. Dialgia can use four metal energies so you can’t do any damage to it. So all legendary pokemon should be banned.

 

Another card that is unfair is Eelektrik. It lets you put extra energies on your pokemon every turn and that’s not fair for people that can’t do that. The rules say you can only attach one energy per turn so Eelektrik should be banned. Even though it comes in one of the theme decks and it’s really easy to get, it’s a cheap and unfair card and the only people that use it have no creativity. Also Celebi, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, and Emboar should all be banned since they do it too. In fact all the prime cards should be banned with the EXs. They all have broken poke powers that give you too big of an advantage. Like, if you get four Ampharos primes on the bench then your opponent has to do 40 damage when they attach an energy every turn! So primes should be banned to.

 

Dark types should also be banned. There are no cards that resist dark type, so if you use dark no one can beat you because you always have a better type than them. If you use Hydreigon and Tyranitar you can do damage to all you opponents pokemon and knock out the things on their bench before they get to attack. If I have two Mareeps on my bench then my opponent can KO both of them in one turn with Hydreigon. Dark types are getting even stronger when the next set comes out so they should definitely be banned too! We should ask the mods to change the rules so people can't do this.

There's always a thread like this pretty sure there was another one about EX's not too long ago and before that, one about banning Primes and even afew suggesting banning legendaries even though most of them are horrible lol only time i remember an actual card ruining the game was when it was badly translated or a rule change which gave a card an edge.

 

Poke Ball 1 if it makes you feel any better with the next set i know there are atleast 2 decks without EX's that are doing pretty well in JP's format

Come on, folks, the only thing Pokemon-EX ruin is space in your deck. Adding a Mewtwo into your deck means one less space you could have easily filled with a Drapion instead. XD

 

I'll admit that Pokemon-EX have taken some originality out of the game. But let's not forget that not only do they give up 2 prizes, but they often rely on other Pokemon that are NOT other Pokemon-EX for support. If a Terrakion can KO a Zekrom EX, it can do the same to an Eelektrik. Which means that if you get rid of them in 2 consecutive turns, you're getting an easy 3 prizes.

I love battles V opponents with lots of EX's because 4 of the 6 EX's are all terrible when I am attacking with a trolling deck.

 

The other match I was V an oppenent with multiple EX Pokemon including Mewtwo EX and I pulled out the auto-win [almost] combination of Vileplume Trainer lock with Vannilluxe ND, to switch in the opponents benched Pokem on to Regi EX and my active Pokemon to Smoochum. I then went on to win the match after about 30 turns without an opponents attack and like 15 energy on a benched Crobat Prime lol.

One of my favorite ways to troll is to have Reuniclus move damage onto a Pokemon to knock it out so I can then play Twins, get a Catcher (and other provisions when necessary), yank out a Pokemon-EX and get my 2 prizes.

 

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks Yanmega/Terrakion is another good Troll combo.

Yes. EXs have ruined our format, in my opinion.

 

Most decks have been pushed aside never to see play ever again just because the EXs have big HP and do big damage. That is extremely boring.

 

In the past EX formats, EXs were used to pull off skillful combos, but we have some horrible ideas for EXs which are just plain boring. All they do is do a ton of damage and have loads of HP.

 

I can understand Reshiram and Zekrom, but the EXs went too far with the whole 'zomg legendry nedz to b strong!!11!'.

 

Stage 2's are now completely useless. Like, anything a Stage 2 does, EXs do it better.

 

Magenzone can hit for loads of damage, but it doesn't matter because Zekrom EX can also deal loads of damage even faster and earlier and still live.

 

Stage 2's can't even live a turn, so why play them? Emboar and Vileplume are understandable, but outside that - why?

 

They really wrecked the game with these EXs.

Stage 2s still have a place in many decks so long as you make sure to have sufficient Rare Candies to get them up and running as soon as possible. I run a Reshiphlosion deck and tend to view Ex's as prize liabilities, because with the damage applied by Afterburner they can easily be pushed into 1 hit KO range for opposing Ex's while a fully powered Reshiram 2 hits an opposing Ex anyway. I also tech in a Magnezone for any mid to late game Ex's that might appear as, with 2 Typhlosion's up I can be deploying 3 energy to the field a turn so I only need to find one more to OHKO Ex's.

 

In summary, I don't like using Ex's all that much, I just don't find them fun to play (although I should probably tech in at least 1 Mewtwo), but they don't appear broken. They can be VERY irritating if they get set up early in the game but then so can any well supported deck with good energy acceleration such as CMT in the early game without Mewtwo out.

I remember the same flack expressed towards cards like regular forms of Zekrom and Reshiram, Donphan Prime, Luxray GL Lv. X, and all those other things. Guess what? The best players managed to adapt and deal with them. And I can easily predict that they will do the same with these Pokemon EX.

I don't like EX very much... I was easily winning a match the other day with just my Trainer Challenge gotten cards, and then comes a MewTwo EX... dafuq is that about???

I squashed an entire deck filled with legends because they take a heck of a long time to charge up. Strong cards =/= good strategy.
