What will happen to our online cards that expire?

Everything before the "Black & White" series is going to expire this year, what's going to happen to all of our cards that expire? Will we still be able to use them in un-rated games? Will we still be able to see them? Will they just be deleted? If so will we get anything in exchange for them or should we be getting rid of them with the quickness asap? I see people trading a lot of cards online for "primes" that are going to expire very soon, I've been thinking about this for a while, so I've gotten rid of a lot already, but I know a lot of people have no clue. Anybody know the answer to this?

There is no final word on what will happen to the cards before BW but my guess is that they still will be playable in the unlimited format. They won't be deleted, but I do hope they have a collection reset so we could get back packs we've spent on the older sets.

Sounds like it'd be confusing, but hopefully they make it obvious, like a seperate section for Legal & Expired cards or a red highlight around the illegal cards etc... Too bad they're so slow at fixing things on here. But yeah, like you said, they should have "Unlimited" games so people can keep their older cards and don't just find half their collection deleted one day. Or at least we should get something in return for lost cards if they do get deleted. Either way, I'm just trading away everything that's going to expire just in case the worst happens.

I found out through the Pk league I play at in my hometown, it's a commonly known fact in the Pk world I guess. Apparently after this year's, "Worlds", they're going to expire every card set before "Black & White". I've been trading my older cards all night lol. We still have a few months or so, I believe, before they expire, but yeah, maybe try to google it, I'm sure you'll find something about it. It happens every few years or so I guess.

My honest guess is that those cards and all the booster credits you've redeemed to get them will essentially be worthless. I hope they incorporate some kind of unlimited format in version 2.0, but I'm not going to hold my breath. It's a shame too since by the time PvP is back up all those old cards will be about to rotate. Them's the breaks I guess :/

 

There is a brief glimmer of hope that there might not be a rotation though. Last I heard there was no offical notice on rotation. Many people assume we'll be in a BW on format after worlds, but there's a small chance there will be no rotation. This is becuase last set they rotated early becuase they broke the game by allowing first turn trainers. The Sableye donk deck was so broken they had to rotate it out early.

Yeah I'm not holding onto any of my old cards to find out if there's going to be a rotation or not, though I see your point. I'm trading everything while I still can (before everybody knows the cards are going to be rotated). And I agree, I hope they'll make an "unlimited" game-mode, but who knows. I don't see them doing/fixing much on this site. Now on getting anything in return for our "expired" cards, I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen. The Pokemon company is all about their money, and if they give us new cards for our old cards, they're going to be losing money.

 

So anyway, you guys should probably join me and start trading your old cards (anything before b&w), while you still can, because if they do make the announcement that they're rotating the old cards, nobody's going to want to trade for the old ones. And let's be real, they're more than likely going to have a rotation. Seriously besides a few cards I use in my decks ("Junk Arm", "Twins", "Lost Remover", "Alph Lithograph" etc...), I'm getting rid of all my old stuff before it's too late.

 

And don't you wish they made a new "Junk Arm" or "Twins"? I don't know if I'm going to like building a deck without those. Though they have remade "Rare Candy" (which means the old ones will still be legal if there's a rotation) for "Dark Explorers" as well as added a new card called, "Enhanced Hammer", which does exactly what "Lost Remover" does. Those other 2 cards are vital to me!

 

Anything getting rotated you guys can't live without?

I'm just a newbie and all, but do you honestly think there is going to be a rotation on TCGO? I mean that would make almost all of the Basic decks unplayable, then again they might update the 4 Basic decks, who knows.

 

I'm not too concerned about it given I haven't bought any cards in a long while.

I doubt there will be a rotation. I think it will simply be a separate option for everything.

 

 

 

After all, set rotations are merely for tournaments (but for tournaments it's the organizer's choice. Perhaps any official TCGO tournaments will be way more limited than unlimited, but that'll be all): anywhere else is the player's choice, and surely they're going to emulate that choice. After all, in real life you can still play with your old cards! And that's exactly why set rotations are tolerated: it's only for competitive games, with a good reason. If the cards instead somehow erased themselves, you can bet on it nobody would be playing it anymore! This online game would quickly die out if everyone lost the ability to use their old cards.

Losing Junk Arm is going to be a nightmare, but at least it means no more six catcher games. I'll be holding onto my cards, really just becuase I can aford to. I'm sure they'll have to be playable somehow, but trading them off won't do much good. I really only need stuff from DEX, which of course is going to miss the majority of it's spotlight time here anyhow.

Everybody out here was talking about the rotation during the "Dark Explorers Pre-Release", but again, it might be different with our online cards. If you notice, right now, there's no rotated cards online that are playable. So after "Worlds", who knows what will happen.

 

Yeah "Junk Arm" is a vital card right now. At least you can throw a couple of the new "Sableyes" in your decks when the time comes. I really hope they eventually make a new "Prof. Oaks New Theory". That's going to be even harder to not have.

i think the should make a crad trade in system for such cards to give us a chance to earn a portation of whats goinbg to be losti mean like for every so many cards you give up you earn a boster credit even if its not just limted to banned cards it will be somekind of system in polace to deal with such problems
